audrey’s first birthday {the invitations}

It’s hard to believe, but our baby girl is nearly one.

collection

Which means she’ll be having a special one-year-old birthday celebration.

We aren’t planning an over-the-top event : just brunch and birthday cake with family and a few friends at our house.

inspiration board

But that doesn’t mean I can’t make her party pretty!

peony

I found this crepe paper peony bouquet in the Martha Stewart section at Walmart and it became the inspiration for Audrey’s party : white, light blue, peacock blue, gray and gold {pretty much just like her nursery}.

stack of invitations

I wanted the invitations to be special – girly, pretty and a little bit fancy.

invitation

I used gold tissue paper to create the pleated ruffle and stitched it directly onto the card.

tissue ruffle

I am so pleased with how they turned out.

{Sources: the sweet little silver shoe in the top photo is from Target which I’m sad to say I can not find online. The gray striped straws are from Bake it Pretty. The silver ‘audrey’ was made by me : perhaps a new tutorial idea : as were the little crepe paper flowers. I have a great vision for how I’m going to use them that I hope works in real life as well as it does in my mind – more on that to come.}

    Emily, I’m loving the subtle floral motif on the invitations and was hoping to find out the source of the design; I’d love to use them on a baby shower invite I’m making!
    Thanks so much…love all of your creative ideas!

  2. Jessica September 26, 2011 at 11:32 pm #

    I know this is silly… BUT would you ever consider doing a tutorial for this (particularly, the ruffle)? It’s just so sweet and charming and it could go on so much! : )

      I have a post coming about my favorite fonts … but I will tell you ahead of time that the font I used for ‘Audrey’ is called Nelly Script Flourish. It is a great one!

    So perfect for precious Audrey Ryan’s special FIRST!

    it’s so funny…. i call you by your first name like I really know you.

  18. Lynne February 9, 2011 at 4:54 pm #

    You are truly inspired. The tissue paper on the invitations is beautiful. I thought it was ribbon, and then wondered how on earth you put the pleats in it. Just gorgeous! I keep hoping some creativity will rub off on me if I keep reading your blog!

  19. michele b. February 9, 2011 at 4:20 pm #

    Oooh, those turned out AMAZING! Love the gold tissue embellishment! First birthdays are so special, and it looks like her party will reflect that perfectly!

  20. Rachel February 9, 2011 at 3:24 pm #

    Everything looks fabulous! Especially love the tissue paper ruffle…did that take forever?! :) And where did the envelopes come from?

    • emily February 9, 2011 at 5:15 pm #

      The tissue paper did take some time … I pleated then stitched, pleated then stitched, all the way down each card. But I loved how it looked and only needed a few invitations so it was worth it. The envelopes are from Paper Zone {part of the PZ Facets line – not sure if you can order online and I think there are only a handful of stores in the Pacific NW, so I’m not sure if this is helpful information}. I made the liners by printing the stripes on a piece of text weight paper and cutting to size.

    I’m sorry – Audrey! :)

  52. Leanne February 9, 2011 at 8:02 am #

    If you don’t mind, where do you get your paper from (or at least, what is the weight?). I’m working on my wedding invitations right now and figured I could use some advice. Your invitations and cards always look so wonderful! Thank you so much! And Happy Birthday to Audry!

    • emily February 9, 2011 at 8:34 am #

      The paper I used for these invitations is a white linen {the same paper used for all of my art prints & name prints}. I like a thick, heavy paper and this one is great. It is 110lb. and made by Neenah papers. You can order on their website {www.neenahpaper.com}.

      • Leanne February 11, 2011 at 9:58 pm #

        Thank you!
