my cousin’s wedding invitations

My second littlest cousin is getting married this fall. We adore her fiance and can’t wait for their special wedding day.

{aren’t they the most darling couple?! Photos by the talented Stacy Jacobsen}

Jen asked me to create her invitations and I was so pleased to do them for her. She wanted something vintage-y, fun, a little bit formal and the groom wanted to somehow incorporate a ‘tree with roots’ {love you, brett!}. Here is what we came up with:

wedding invitation suite

The package came in a navy envelope with cute wraparound labels.

All of the invitation pieces were bundled with a striped wrap and tied with twine.

The tree with roots turned out really cute with their initials subtly added.

We used envelopes in curry from Paper Source for the rsvp card. I love the pop of color.

driving directions ferry schedule

The wedding is at a gorgeous farm across the sound from Seattle, so we included a ferry schedule for local travelers.

And a dainty registry card.

I started jones design company 10 years ago doing custom invitations for brides, new babies, parties and holiday cards.  As our family has grown and I’ve entered this blogging world, my business has changed and custom design work has taken a back seat.

I get questions every once in a while asking about design projects and it makes me sad to say no. Especially when I don’t have a list of great referrals to offer. I always suggest my friends Rae {www.armommy.com} and Lindsay {www.lindsayletters.com}, but with one just having a baby and another expecting her first, I know they are both limited with how much work they can take on too.

So I thought this might be a good chance to open up the comments to those of you who are stationery designers. If you have a business doing invitations, announcements, or other graphic design please leave a link to your website in the comments. Feel free to leave a little snippet about what you do or services you offer.

If you are looking for custom design work, please check through the comments to see if someone fits your aesthetic. I hope it becomes a great resource.

t-shirt time

A few weeks ago I found some super cheap t-shirts for the kids that I’ve had stacked in my office waiting for inspiration {and time} to embellish them.

Yesterday was the day and of course I had to show you how they turned out. I didn’t make tutorials, but hopefully I can get your creative wheels turning for decorating t-shirts of your own.

my handwriting font

I’ve been wanting to do this for quite some time and finally the opportunity presented itself …

I added in a few doodles and symbols because they make things fun.  If you aren’t quite sure how to add a symbol, here’s a mini lesson using Microsoft Word:

Thanks a bunch!

Not sure how to install a font on your computer? At the bottom of this post I show what to do {don’t worry … it is surprisingly simple}

booklets {tutorial}

Do you need a simple project for an easter basket, party favor or something fun to jot down notes in?

IMG_0573

How about making one of these booklets.

IMG_0547-1

Here is what you’ll need:

IMG_0533

:: booklet template {download pink or orange at the end of the post}

:: multiple sheets of text-weight paper

:: sewing machine, paper cutter

:: rubber stamps & ink to personalize

STEP ONE: trim template to size {7 x 5}

IMG_0534

STEP TWO: cut filler paper to size {4.875 x 6.875}

IMG_0535

I stacked four sheets so when folded my booklets would have eight blank sheets. You could add as many or few as you’d like.

You’ll have this:

STEP THREE: fold the booklet cover and inside pages in half

STEP FOUR: assemble the booklet

IMG_0541

STEP FIVE: stitch along the folded line using a straight stitch

See? So simple.

You can embellish the front however you like … I used my favorite letter stamps to personalize, but handwriting or stickers would also be darling.

Add it to the easter basket along with colored pencils or crayons for a cute handmade sketchbook.

. . . . . . . .

My babes are getting buckets this year for easter.

I found the galvanized buckets at ikea for $1.99 each and then added a sticker to each to identify whose is whose {or is it who’s is whose? Oh, why is the english language so complicated}.

My mom was always so great about making holidays special … and I’m trying to follow in her footsteps. This is my attempt to put together a fun easter bucket for my kiddos.

A girlie version of the bunny, an easter board book, booklet {for all the drawing a one year old does}, some embellished mary janes and a peep.

peep

My baby is lucking out this year and getting her own bunny peep.

The bunnies were made using this pattern and were very simple to make.

After making the first one, I altered the pattern a bit. I made the head a bit rounder and elongated the legs. I also embroidered the face before stitching the bunny together {since I couldn’t figure out how to hide the knots once the little guy was sewn shut}.

While I totally get that Easter is not all about bunnies and jelly beans and peeps, I always enjoy giving my kiddos little gifts … they are pretty sweet!
