how do i love thee? {a fun diy with free printable}

    While perusing pinterest, I came across an idea for loving your kids in the month of february. Each day, you cut out a heart, write something you love about the child and tape it to their bedroom door. Each morning, they wake up and feel extra loved as they embark on their day. Cute idea, right?

    I couldn’t leave well enough alone, so I’ve gone and created my own hearts playing off the lovely poem by Elizabeth Barrett Browning

    How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.

    There is a numbered heart for each day until valentine’s day.

    I’ll show you how I made mine.

    You’ll need:

    supplies

    :: printable hearts {download below}

    :: assorted scrapbook paper {or plain white is fine too}

    :: scissors

    :: stamps or pens to write sentiments

    :: glitter if you’d like to embellish

    :: a long ribbon to hang

    STEP ONE: print template on assorted paper and trim around dotted lines

    cut-heart

    I’ll be doing this for four kids, so I printed several different pages on different paper

    hearts-straight

    STEP TWO: write {or stamp} something you love about your husband/child/friend/yourself

    kind

    beautiful

    STEP THREE: hang ribbon from top of door {embellish if you wish}

    ribbon-on-door

    STEP FOUR: each day, add a new heart {attach with double stick tape}

    full-door

    I’m really excited to do this for the kids this year. I don’t always do a great job celebrating each one for their individual qualities and so not only will it be special for them to hear, but it will be really great for me to think about.

    If you’d like to make a love banner of your own, feel free to download the template below.

    2. I started this for my boys 02.01 – they love it! Every morning the pop out of their rooms to read the new heart. I couldn’t get your DL to print, so I just cut out my own hearts. Thanks so much for sharing the idea!

    3. I’m tucking a set of these around my husband’s mirror in the bathroom each day. It’s been such a fun reminder of all the reasons why we love each other. Thanks for the prompting!

    4. I started this today. My kids are so excited about it, I can tell it has already made them feel special. They can’t wait to see what tomorrow’s heart will say. Thanks for the lovely idea.

    5. I love this! I send notes to my girls every day in their lunch boxes. In February, I’m going to send these instead. So excited for Friday!

    6. Can’t wait to print these and put them on each of my four children’s doors. I might a set for my husband as well. I’m going to use miniture clothespins to attach them to the ribbon.

      Thanks for the sweet idea to celebrate each of my little ones.

    7. Sad :( it isn’t pinterest who came up with that idea… It was another mommy Blogger. I bet she would love some love and a little credit for her awesome idea!

    8. Emily,
      I will not be doing this for many reasons, but I want you to know that when I read your blog post I felt “extra loved as I embarked on my day”
      Amazing what a sweet idea can do to a person’s whole frame of mind.
      Thank you

    9. i started this last year but i have envelopes attached to their chairs. we write notes to each kid, but we make them write some to each other too. They need to be reminded that their siblings need to hear why they love them too! Our Diy on the envelopes post tomorrow!

    10. This a fabulous idea for my kiddos!! I think even the 14 year old boy will love these, even though he won’t ever admit it:0)!! Thanks for a fabulous way to spend the month of Love!!

    11. This is a beautiful idea! I think my kinds will love being told they are loved. Thanks for the printables and that is one of my favorite poems.

    12. Lately I’ve been feeling very convicted about my lack of kind, affirming words toward my children, so your timing on this is perfect! I also ordered one of those “I Like” books this morning (the plan is to take time each day before bedtime and write something you like about your child, and they write something they like about you). Thanks for the free printable!

    13. What a precious idea! I have an adult child still living at home, one 15 year old boy and one 10 year old boy and I think that even though they are grown or boys this will still warm their heart. I shall get to it over the weekend.
      Emily, I look forward to your daily blog posts as they brighten my day as they are delivered to my inbox. I have recently subscribed to your monthly printables and now that I am just starting to deal with depression due to a traumatic brain injury, I really enjoy them. Your blog posts bring a smile to my face and give me something to look forward to.
      Patty

    14. Wonderful idea! Thank you for sharing…as I was reading, I was already thinking of character traits my kids have, and blessings they share with others…

    15. Thank you so much for this! I had decided to do something special the first 14 days of feb for my husband and hadn’t come up with something for every day yet. This will be perfect

    16. I love this! Words have incredible power to do good or harm in people’s lives–I so want to be more intentional to speak good ones, especially toward my family. And what a fun way to use Valentine’s Day as an opportunity! Love the heart of this and the presentation.

    17. This might be a silly question – but what program do you use to make printables? Both this kind and the different ones you sell in your shop. Thanks!
