Last night at dinner, our oldest tagged this onto the end of his before-dinner prayer:
“and thank you for valentine’s day even though it was invented by Hallmark to get people to buy cards”.
Smart little one, he is.
We’re still celebrating around here, even if it is a made up holiday. Loving each other never gets old. Plus it gives me an excuse to eat crazy amounts of chocolate.
Happy Valentine’s Day, sweet friends.

Well… I will grant you that Hallmark has taken full advantage of the day but the company was not founded until 1910. There are so many vintage images dating back as far as the 1850′s and beyond so it might not be fair to say they invented THIS holiday.

Valentine’s Day is commercialized and Hallmark-y, but St. Valentine’s story is actually very interesting. He performed marriages during a time when the Roman government made it illegal. He was martyred for living out his belief that marriage is ordained by God, and not man. So yes, something to celebrate!

If you made those hearts I’m dying!! A tutorial would be awesome!!

Aaaaand it’s also a feast day of the Church. Let’s not forget the martyr for whom this day is actually named.

I love your appreciate for this made-up holiday! There might’ve been a little moaning on my part when putting together all 20 Valentine’s for my little foster boy’s class.
Need to refocus on the love. Thanks for the inspiration!
Mindy
I love that you refer to Valentine’s Day as love day – that is what I often call it, maybe because it’s also our anniversary so there is a lot of love around here: )
Amelia
You can tell your son that V-Day has been celebrated for about 600 years!!!
Erin
Valentin’s day is not a made up Hallmark holiday. Sweetest Day is! Valetine’s day has been celebrated since the 15th Century!!
