the kitchen {Autumn}

It was time to reorganize the kitchen shelves and pull out some Autumn accents. I feel like I’m a little behind fluffing my house for the season {I usually do this September 1st due to my absolute love of fall} but it is nice to at least have the kitchen reflect the current season.

I’m loving the added contrast of the brown and am happy to see those Spode dishes again!

    ***UPDATE***

    Just to answer some questions:

The paint color for the top of the walls is Texas Leather by Benjamin Moore.

The little jack-o-lantern plate was a gift from my mom – probably from a store like TJ Maxx because she always finds the cutest things there {and I never do}. It says M Studios on the back in case you wanted to know.

The glass jars are an assortment from IKEA and Cash & Carry. They are what we organize our pantry with. Someday when I straighten it up, I’ll take some photos. It makes me happy.

The shelves are from IKEA. We sanded and painted them the color of the lower cabinets so that they would match. Love them. They are sturdy and simple and slightly industrial looking.

I really like having open shelves. Sure the things get dusty, but it isn’t so bad. Our everyday dishes and glassware are on the lower shelves which we use so often that they don’t have a chance to collect dust. The stuff on the top just needs to be wiped down before use. If you like the look of shelves and have dishware you like to see, I say go for open shelves!

Melissa at The Inspired Room shared about her open shelves here.

And I really love how this gal styles her’s:

    1. Love the gray and white in the frame! What is that? Did you find it framed or did you put it together? It’s just what I’m looking for!

    2. Well, your kitchen is simply scrumptious. I love, love, love it. Can I say thanks so much for sharing your life with us??!

    3. Hi. I love your kitchen. I would love to rip out the upper cabinets in my tiny kitchen in favor of open shelving. So I am wondering if after you cook bacon, you have to wash ALL of your dishes or do they stay pretty clean??

    4. My sister has that Spode collection and uses them as her everday-ware…also, I just saw those shelves at the bottom on A Country Farmhouse (I think that’s what it’s called). We like the same stuff. :)

    5. It looks beautiful! We have the same faucet, I love it, it was worth the splurge many years ago….now I have some ‘ideas’ for my kitchen, which I’m not sure my husband is going to be happy about ;-)!!

    6. I /LOVE/ your style!!! But I have to ask, with four small children, a business to run, and all the regular womanly duties, /how/ do you find the time and inspiration to keep up such a wonderfully clean, uncluttered, seasonally current, and inspiring lifestyle?! My responsibilities are much smaller than yours, and /I/ can’t seem to be able to keep my spaces/creations clean, beautiful, professional, and creative like I’d love to, and it seems you accomplish easily… Where does all your inspiration come from? Have you come up with your ‘style’ or do you take ideas from others?
      Love your blog!

    7. Beautiful! I am so ready to decorate for fall, but I just can’t bring myself to do it while our temps are still in the 90’s. Hopefully soon!

    8. I LOVE glass jars and would love to be able to put my flour/sugar/etc. in them…but…I had three little jars like yours in my bathroom and had white powdered bubble bath in one, an extra roll of toilet paper in another, and Q-Tips in the third. After a few weeks, I noticed the Q-Tip jar had a few small chips out of the rim, and the little glass chip flakes were in the jar. Obviously, my teenagers were a little too heavy-handed with the jar, but it made me realize I couldn’t have anything edible in my lovely jars since I’d always worry about glass chips. I noticed Paula Deen, Martha Stewart….they all have them too. Sad for me. =[

    9. Beautiful kitchen!! Where did you find the clear canisters on the counter next to the fridge? I’ve seen the two larger ones at Target and Crate and Barrel, but have not seen the smaller two. And, they look to be all of the same design. Also, where did you find the sweet jack-o-lantern plate?? Love!

    10. Goodness, those open shelves are lovely! This is my first fall in our first home, so I’m scrabbling to figure it out. Thank you for more inspiration!

    13. Thanks for sharing! I’m with Meg, do your open kitchen shelves take a lot of cleaning maintenance? I have two playful dogs that seem to create a lot of flying fluff. Do you recommend doing open shelves? Would you do it again? We’re considering a kitchen remodel, so I’m just curious for your thoughts. Thank you!
