all in favor of camping say ‘I’

Like many, many other families this past Memorial Day weekend, we traded in our insulated homes, our fluffy mattresses and modern conveniences like sinks and electricity for this crazy thing called camping.

{taken on our drive over to eastern washington}

Camping is a weird thing: we pack as few belongings as possible to go sleep in the dirt. In a nylon tent with only a zipper protecting us from danger. We cook food on a tiny gas stove and wash dishes in a plastic bin with cold water. We go to sleep with hair that smells of campfire and wake up bright and early when the sun comes up {and the seagulls dive bomb the campsite looking for scraps of food}.

It’s inconvenient. It’s a bit of work. It’s very dirty.

But it’s so good.

Time together outdoors with our families – without work or computers or phone service – just campfires and freeze tag and swimming in chilly lakes.  And s’mores. Don’t forget those. With peanut butter, please.

We went camping. It was inconvenient. It was a bit of work. It was very, very dirty.

But it was just what our family needed.

All in favor of camping, say ‘I’.

    I LOVE camping and what you said is sooo true…it’s a lot of work, but it is so worth it. There’s just something about shucking all of the modern conveniences and things that get in the way to get outside with just you, your family, and no distractions. So glad y’all had a great time!

    We love to camp too. The kids think it is great and enjoy spending time outside coming up with crazy games to fill the afternoons. We also go biking, hiking and geocaching while we’re out there! :) We just got back from a weekend of camping too!

    Camping is so wonderful. The work, the dirt, the cold nights in the tent (we’ve had some REAL cold ones) are all worth it. I always hate to come home, because I know that the television, the video games, the computer are all back there. A technological break is so refreshing.

    Camping is even more than a bit of work! But I’m in favor! I spend days getting ready and days unpacking, all for one night’s stay, but it is always worth the memories. Beautiful, carefree photos!

    “I!!” :) I’m planning to go camping + canoeing next weekend and I can’t even wait! Sleeping in tents, cooking over a fire, and hitting the rapids… all with good friends. You can’t beat it! :)

    Sounds like a wonderful weekend.
    Shhh…don’t tell….I have never gone camping. But, I have gone to camp as a kid and led lots of summer camps. I know it just isn’t the same when you sleep in a cabin and go to the dining hall for meals. Maybe some day.

    Oh, camping. Haven’t been in forever. Competitive soccer took care of that and after that season of life ended, it just became too much work. Sadly it became more of the drag your belongings out to the woods only to bring everything back home to wash again. Kinda jaded, huh?
    But maybe it was because no one ever thought of PEANUT BUTTER on a S’more!! There’s a head-slap-duh right there!!
    Camping really is the best. Nothing better than sitting by the afternoon fire, reading a good book while the kids explore the area with their bikes. Hikes in the cool morning. Songs and stories around the campfire. Having to pee in the middle of the night and having to navigate to the bathroom. {I can go all nite at my house, but camping? ALWAYS have to pee in the nite!}

    Love it…grew up doing it and will continue to do it with my babes. The inconvenient, hard work, and dirty living is so worth the rustic living in God’s creation! Love it…

    We love camping! We did invest in a travel trailer several years ago and have pulled it from West Texas to the Smokey Mountains, to the U.P. in Michigan, to the very northwest corner of Montana to Glacier NP, and all over in between. It is so cathartic to have our world reduced to what fits in our home on wheels. It makes me want to throw everything else away! Hahahaha! Glad you had a glorious campout!

    You were in our neck of the woods! :)

    Personally camping is not my favorite thing. I’m more of a ‘camping at a hotel’ kind of girl! However, since we now live in eastern Washington (and the kids are a little older) my husband wants to go.

    “I”. We too went camping this weekend… Scenic Beach State Park over by Seabeck. Beautful area. Rhododendrons everywhere! Smoke smell and all we ate at a little cafe monday morning on our way back home. ‘Barbie’s Cafe’. Beautiful view plus friendly locals equals a great way to end a camping weekend. Wish I could post a pic. Ya for camping! ;)
