classic hymns collection
Every once in a while, a classic hymn will pop into my head and linger there for a bit. The churches I grew up in did more praise & worship music {think Lord I Lift Your Name on High and Shout To The Lord} but somehow, hymns were still part of my upbringing so they are meaningful and the words are there in my heart.
This new collection of art prints celebrates some of the most dearly loved classic hymns. Just a snippet of each one. Sometimes the chorus, sometimes just a line that is holds so much truth. Those hymn writers were profound fellows.
Create a collage with all of hymn prints or display just one. Tape one to your bathroom mirror as a reminder or frame them in your child’s room. These are versatile, make great gifts and have a modern yet simple aesthetic. I’ve hung a few up in our house already.
The prints are now available in the shop. Are you humming a hymn to yourself now?

My favorite hymn is “Be Thou My Vision.” Beautiful, beautiful words.
This collection it a great one, Emily.

“Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart. Naught be all else to me save what Thou art. Thou my best thought by day or by night. Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.”

I love this post! The simplicity of the prints allow the verses to speak for themselves. Each is so powerful. Thanks so much!

These are fantastic! I’ll be stopping by the shop for sure

Love them Emily! I have had a ton of hymns in my head recently as I’ve been thinking about how I want to write a real “about” page on my blog. I create because my heavenly Father has created! I am inspired by his creation and the beauty it exudes. From the veins of a leaf to the ever changing colors of the sky. Anything beautiful comes from him and that includes the projects I make with these 2 hands and the creative mind he has given me!
This is my Father’s world,
and to my listening ears
all nature sings, and round me rings
the music of the spheres.
This is my Father’s world:
I rest me in the thought
of rocks and trees, of skies and seas;
his hand the wonders wrought.
This is my Father’s world,
the birds their carols raise,
the morning light, the lily white,
declare their maker’s praise.
This is my Father’s world:
he shines in all that’s fair;
in the rustling grass I hear him pass;
he speaks to me everywhere.
Thanks for sharing and creating! To God be the glory.

Have you considered making these into greeting cards? I love the style of these prints and thought it would also make a nice little note to send to someone as well.

What an incredible idea, Emily! I’m so thankful you are persistent about creating art that gives glory to God. I think we need “modern” art that is Christian in today’s world. I grew up singing exclusively old hymns and I think our generation so easily forgets the rich words in those beautiful songs. Great job and keep em coming…is all I have to say!

I was not a Christian until I was an adult, but I knew each of these songs and love them.
BTW, your big yellow button took me to a ‘page not found.’

Oh my goodness, Emily! These are perfect! I’m so glad that God made you not only creative but encouraging as well. My boys just started school and I have my little girl at home during the day. Just this morning I decided to teach her some (new to her) hymns. One of these will be finding its way to the collage wall in her bedroom. Thank you!
Oh and I’ve been singing “Take My Life” for the past 2 days.
Katie
these are great! And I will say that , though I was also brought up in contemporary worship, the church definitely had a huge respect for hymns, and they are what pop into my head when I am in quiet time with the Lord and wanting to glorify him!
jen
these are lovely. I love that you’ve just put a snippet of each hymn…it brings the rest of it to mind so easily!

Oh my goodness! I love these and I’m crying and reminiscing now… I just found out that my childhood worship pastor…who taught me to love music and mold me into the singer that I am today…and married me and my husband!…was just diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. It was in his choirs that I learned all of these hymns, and learned to love the Lord deeper as a result. The prognosis is obviously not great for him, but I know that even in this time of sorrow he is rejoicing to know that he will soon be home!

Love these! I too grew up with more contemporary songs in church but the hymns were part of my heritage via the odd Sunday morning with my grandma. Old hymns always make me think of her.

Can I just buy one print? I’d love to have the Rise and Shine and Give God the Glory one, or just one posted above, but it seems that I can only get it if I buy the whole collection. Anyone know?? Thanks.

Those hymn writers were profound fellows–and profound women, as well! “Blessed Assurance” was written by Fanny Crosby. In addition to being a woman in a man’s world, she was blind. So for her, “Watching and waiting, looking above; filled with goodness, lost in his love” had really special meaning!
This is a beautiful collection. Bless you!

“Prone to wander, Lord I feel it, prone to leave the God I love. Here’s my heart, Lord, take and seal it, seal it for thy courts above!” I love hymns, and now you’ve got me singing! I may need the “Bing My Wandering Heart to Thee” print. Well done! XO!

I really LOVE these! The story behind “It Is Well” is amazing, from Wikipedia:
“This hymn was written after several traumatic events in Spafford’s life. The first was the death of his only son in 1871 at the age of four, shortly followed by the great Chicago Fire which ruined him financially (he had been a successful lawyer). Then in 1873, he had planned to travel to Europe with his family on the SS Ville du Havre, but sent the family ahead while he was delayed on business concerning zoning problems following the Great Chicago Fire. While crossing the Atlantic, the ship sank rapidly after a collision with a sea vessel, the Loch Earn, and all four of Spafford’s daughters died. His wife Anna survived and sent him the now famous telegram, “Saved alone . . .”. Shortly afterwards, as Spafford traveled to meet his grieving wife, he was inspired to write these words as his ship passed near where his daughters had died.”
Such amazing words from such tragedy! Thanks for displaying them so beautifully!
Is it possible these will be sold in PDF form?

In love with these! Now which ones to buy…
Any chance you can do some for favorite childrens’ hymns? We sing Go Tell it on the Mountain, This little light of mine, I love you Lord, God is so good, Jesus loves me, etc to our boys every night at bedtime. The visual reminder would be great for kids too. Just a thought!
