embellished note cards

Did you receive anything wonderful for Christmas? Or attend any special parties? Maybe you enjoyed lunch out with a girlfriend or a casual get-together with your neighbors? I do hope so : that is what makes the holidays so much fun.

Have you sent a thank you note yet?

If not, I have just the project for you.

I have created four different printable note cards that you can download and print at home.

    IMG_8599

You can simply print and cut and use them as they are.

    IMG_8604

Or you can embellish the cards to give them a bit more personality. I’ll show you four of my favorite options: rounded corners, layered, glittered edges and watercolored.

    IMG_8659

    roundedIMG_8607

This one is pretty straight-forward. But I always love the simplicity and modern sensibility of rounded corners on a note card.

    IMG_8608

You can purchase a corner rounder at most craft stores in the scrapbook section. Mine is from the Creative Memories line and I’ve had it for at least 10 years! You can purchase it {here}.

    layered

Another simple way to dress up a plain notecard – give it a layer of color.

    IMG_8611

    First trim off 1/16th inch from each side {so that the finished card size is 3 3/8 x 4 7/8}

    IMG_8613

Cut your background paper {a solid color cardstock is great, or your favorite scrapbook paper} to 3 1/2 x 5.

    IMG_8614

    Now attach the layers.

    IMG_8615

I use that crazy tape gun {purchase here}, but I also think Glue Dots {or strips} are pretty ingenious.

    IMG_8617

Stick on a couple of glue strips, then center on the cardstock and press to adhere.

    IMG_8619

    IMG_8620

    glittered

    Stickles is a great product of glitter glue that dries to look like you just glittered the edges {not lumpy like you think glitter glue would dry}. I’m assuming you can get it at most craft stores or you can get it online {here}

    IMG_8623

Using a scrap piece of paper behind, angle the tip against the edge of the note card, gently squeeze and run a line of glitter all the way down each side.

    So pretty.

    watercolor

Pull out your children’s water color set {or you own!} and paint just the edges of the note cards.

    IMG_8649

Or paint a thin line just a smidge away from the edges.

Four easy ways to make the cards your own.

Just in case you are curious:

I have a Canon Pixma ip8500 printer which I think is great. It is a photo quality printer that has 8 ink cartridges and takes heavy paper nicely. I appreciate that. However, it is discontinued. I’m doing a bit of research on other great printer options, but as of now, I don’t have a great suggestion as I haven’t given any other ones a try.Ā  I wouldn’t want to make a recommendation without knowing if it is a good one or not.

I can say that if you are hoping to print stationery from home, try to find a printer that will accept heavy paper {up to 120 lb}.Ā  I’m guessing that the more ink cartridges the better the color will be, so maybe look for one with multiple colors rather than the basic black, magenta, cyan & yellow {mine takes those plus green, red, photo magenta and photo cyan}.

    One more thing:

Paper Source has a really great selection of card stock & envelopes. One of my favorites to print on is this paper:

    {luxe white}

If you are looking for a super heavy paper, the luxe white comes in 300 gsm as well. You may want to double check that your printer will accept such thick paper, but it is wonderful!

I love all of the colors of their cover weight paper

And if you are in need of envelopes, they have some great ones as well

    1. I love your blog! Just discovered you and I’m a new fan!

I’ve used watercolor paper before (comes in a pad from the art store) to print photos. Looks to have a similar texture to what you’ve shown here. It goes through my very mediocre printer quite easily, one sheet at a time.

      Continued success,

    2. Emily, I love these cards – I make my own cards all the time. Haven’t actually bought one in years. I find it to be so much more personal (and creatively fulfilling) that way. As for your printer, I have the Canon i9900, which is an 8-color home printer that can print up to 13×19 with a full bleed! The quality is fantastic, and I have printed on everything from high-quality photo paper to a piece cut from an old cardboard box (yep, cardboard. That made for an interesting project). The paper feeds through the back and stays flat, so you can print on extremely thick stocks. It’s also relatively fast, even at the highest quality setting. I highly recommend it!

    3. Emily,
I purchased these adorable cards, ordered my paper and envelopes and printed them out today! I made envelope liners out of black and white toile paper and embellished with the silver glitter edges! I must say these are the cutest little notecards I’ve had in a long time. I can’t wait to “gift” my friends with sets of these for their birthdays. Many thanks and I can’t wait for your next “printables”!

    4. Love these Emily. I cannot wait to use them. I’m not sure about Bless Your Heart in the south, but it’s not considered derogatory at all in WV. It’s actually one of my favorites.

    5. Emily-I’d like to swing by the Paper Source to check out paper selections first….am I able to purchase and download them now, and then print them later on? Also, can I print them only once or are they re-printable? Thank you again, they are gorgeous!

    6. Does anyone else feel like a First Grader when cutting these out?! Even with the easy to use dashed line, I have the cutting skills of a 5 year old. Argh!!

The Bless Your Heart comment killed me. I don’t think most Yankees would think twice, but my Yankee brother lives in the South and can’t stand that term as most of the time it is said with some underlying bit of hatred. Or wait, maybe he just interprets it that way….

    7. These are beautiful! Thanks so much for offering such a gorgeous product so easy to purchase, I’ve ordered already! Also LOVED the free printable gift tags, they embellished all of our Christmas gifts and I got a lot of compliments.

    8. This is a most fabulous freebie, Emily! I love it! And one of my all-time favorite fonts! I love a good swashy font! So many fun finishing ideas!

I’d love to share this with my clients. You’re awesome!

    9. The cards are just lovely and the ideas are inspiring. One note, though, I would never, ever use and that is “Bless Your Heart”. You’d understand what I mean if you were a Southerner. I’d rather have used, “How thoughtful” or “How thoughtful of you”. “Bless your heart” isn’t always complimentary in the South.

    10. Emily, thank you so much for sharing these with your readers. They are lovely.
PS paper is the best, isn’t it? I used to work there part time. I had to quit, because even with my discount it was COSTING me money! You have a great style!

    11. I was actually wondering what printer you used to print your stationery. Is that the one you use for your business? I have been tossing around the idea of trying to sell notecards and such, but haven’t the slightest idea where to begin if I were to actually print my own. Do you find that is a lot less expensive for you than getting them printed? And how does the quality compare? Just curious!!

    12. Love the notecards, great idea, selling the printables. When are you going to do another small business workshop? I missed the first one…

    13. Gorgeous! You are so creative! I love the font and the paper. Is the paper pictured the luxe white from papersource? I’d love to see a kids design too!

    14. I’ll be downloading these! I love using a site called envelopemall.com. They have anything and everything in every size and they are super affordable. I used them when we made our wedding invitations. Addicted to your blog.

    15. Emily, Thank you for supplying your printer info. I’ve been thinking about replacing mine, and I do work similar to yours, but I haven’t taken the leap yet. Have you printed on textiles with your canon? I’ve been using my Epson successfully, but it’s a bit rough with thicker paper. Any thoughts? Thanks for all your inspiration!

    16. When I saw the title of this post, I got giddy. You didn’t disappoint.

I love my corner rounder as well. Just so much fun!

Question: I’m very familiar with Paper Source, but I’ve never seen their stuff look as thick as the ones in your pictures. Is the one photographed the same one as the one you linked up?

I’m VERYYYY excited about this new direction in your business!!!

    17. Thank you Emily for this adorable printable and the information! Can’t wait for more to come! I love the children’s card idea someone posted here…I have been looking for affordable notecards I can send out “from my 7 month old”, if that makes sense!

    18. Luv the glittered edges and I always need thank you cards. I will purchase now! I have one idea oh smart and crafty one, make one suitable for kids (boys and girls) and I will buy that one too!

    19. You are the most kindest..sweetest blog! You giveaway so many lovely, practical things. I am never disappointed visiting you. I LOVE this. Watercolored edges…beautiful:)
      thank you

    20. #1. you’re so clever with your glitter paint! I always glue the edges and then dust them in the glitter. your method seems like it makes much more sense… I wish I’d read your post before tonight! #2. Also, just used the luxe white paper tonight. the best. #3. SO glad you’re doing these printables!! everyone should have access to having beautiful stationary at an affordable price! great job, emily!
