oh, deer
There is something mysterious and gentle about a deer.
They are sweet, yet wild. Cautious, yet powerful.
We live in the country and see deer regularly. They are pests to gardens and wander dangerously close to the road late at night. And still, we slow down with each sighting and behold the beauty and grace of this wild creature.
Inspired by a book I’m reading {review coming if the novel turns out as good as I hope!}, here are a few pretty images and adorable fawn products found around the web.

Lovely, lovely little deer.

Beautiful images. When I was in highschool, I had a friend who lived out in the country and they raised a baby deer and it walked right up to people! It was beautiful!

Emily, the book will NOT disappoint you! It is one of my favourites – so beautifully written and completely enchanting – and as a delicious little twist, it has a literary “cameo”. I hope you thoroughly enjoy it!
Always,

I agree with you, Emily, deer are beautiful and so gentle. Here in Vermont we have lots. Last winter our neighbor called us early one morning to say we had 10+ in our backyard eating crabapples off of our tree! I was so excited. I’m so sad that hunting season is here (bow). I try to understand it, but I’m still sad.

beautiful post! my stepmother is a wildlife rehabilitator, and she specializes in orphaned deer. my kids & i have spent many hours watching them, bottle feeding the babies, playing with them… every minute is magical. your super finds are great ideas for christmas gifts – thank you!

Each of these little deer carry such peace and preciousness. Though I live in an area where deer can be a danger to motorists, there is still nothing like the beauty of watching deer grazing on a snowy hillside. Thank you for sharing.

Loved this post. I agree, deer can be pests but also amazing. We have deer cover our yard and neighbor’s field every night, and I freak out about the kids getting deer ticks on them (we’ve pulled a few off of them). Not to mention they feast on my garden. But they are so beautiful and graceful we can’t help but to look at them in awe. Your last image reminded me of this children’s book, my kids LOVE it!

I LOVE that little deer dress! So sweet! The last photo looks sort of like you from behind… maybe…?
We live just outside Baltimore and there’ s a park we walk at that is home to a couple of dear families and if we’re not paying attention and doing our own thing they’ll just walk right out in front of us. I’m not sure whose more startled us or them, but they sure do run faster! =) I wish I could get so close to pet though they look so soft! =)

I agree. They look so gentle and sweet. Yet, they will wreck a garden and even bushes they aren’t supposed to like in 10 min flat. I don’t mind hunting season as long as the deer is being used. (if you know what I mean) and I actually prefer bow season because it’s much more sportsman like than with a gun. I’ll never understand how someone could pull a trigger or a bow back but if it feeds them, I have to be ok with that.

Love that book! Really unique, well-written story.
I grew up in rural Spokane and still visit there frequently so I totally relate to your thoughts about the deer. We regard them as pests in some respects but I still slow down the car and shout to my kids, “Look! Deer!” every single time. I think it is always lovely to have nature so up close and personal.

Oooh. That book will not disappoint you!

When I click on your tutorials, there isn’t a description of how to do the projects, just pictures. Is that it?
Best regards,
