it’s official …
… the holiday season has arrived.
I’ve found in my limited research that people are either lovers or haters of egg nog.
Me? I’m a lover. I like mine cut with a little nonfat milk. Makes me think it is somehow good for me – you know, the whole ‘milk, it does a body good’ thing.
You?

Egg nog lattes are a seasonal weakness of mine…
Rebecca
Mmmmmmm! Yes, please…
Nora
Count me as an eggnog lover. I thin mine with fat-free milk, and I also love it with bourbon. Mother used to make it from scratch, and add alcohol. I would beg her to make mine without, so I always had my own small batch without alcohol. As for the eggs, she convinced us that the liquor cooked the eggs. Her eggnog in the punch bowl with the layer of nutmeg-sprinkled whipping cream floating on top was a beautiful sight. My seven year old grandson loves eggnog, but he has never had the homemade kind.

I love the “Land of Nog”!

My daughter was born on Christmas Eve…I went through SO much Egg Nog (non-alcoholic, of course) that holiday season!

I’m in the hate category. I can’t even stand the smell of it! I remember my brother drinking it by the carton full as quickly as it came in the house. Not sure how he is the only one who ended up liking the stuff!!!
Bryansgyrl
I’m an egg nog lover, and am a little ashamed to say- the thicker the better!
it makes me so happy!
Kara
Just picked up our first carton of the season – and it was pumpkin spice eggnog! Mmmm. Love it in my morning coffee!
Elizabeth
LOVER! Can’t believe you found it already. I’m hitting up the G-store tonight.
Whitney
I’m an eggnog LOVER! I don’t add any extra milk, but I love to just sip on it to make it last longer. And, it goes so well with oyster stew on Christmas Eve before we journey to church.
Roxanna
My mom and dad always added a little brandy to it. Warms your belly (and body) and tastes so good.
Liisa
Put me in the love category as well! My husband cuts it with milk, but I grew up mixing it with root beer or cherry 7-up. My husband thinks that my family is weird to drink it like that, but now I’m encouraged to see that it is semi-normal!
The best part about the eggnog season though is the eggnog latte from Starbucks! I’m surprised that nobody has mentioned it yet…

LOVE! But can’t go there until after Thanksgiving
I have NO self control and would end up weighing 300 lbs. Eggnog Lattes…..those are what get me. They clouds part & the angels sing
Jen W.
I’m a hater. I can’t even stand the smell long enough to touch my lips to the glass to TRY and drink it. Surprising considering I’ll try just about anything!
Alecia Shannon
LOVE IT!!! And I love your idea of adding some skim milk to it…it can sometimes be a bit too thick for me so that should help!
Christy Sanders
I am a fan of eggnog! We have a version called Milknog that is made by Anderson Erickson dairy and is already cut down with milk! Its my holiday obsession. Love!
kristin M
I’m not ready for it yet but i buy a quart every year and usually drink it on Christmas eve. I buy lite eggnog and add Kalhua and ground nutmeg. It definitely says “Christmas” to me.
Angela
I was a hater of egg nog until I married a man who makes the BEST egg nog ever. I can’t say that I love it, pine for it, or crave it, but I always take a little when he makes it.
Michelle
Me? I’m a LOVER of egg nog. I also cut mine down a bit with skim milk, for that very same reason! I consider it a high-protein drink.
dawn
oh. my! I am so thrilled to know this. I will have to take a look out here on the East Coast. I LOVE me some eggnog!
Leann Vercher
I have NEVER tried it!! Maybe this will be the year:)
Julie
I’m not ready for Christmas yet; because I’m simply enjoying the Fall on the East Coast so far. HOWEVER, I LOVE EGG NOG! I like mine mixed with 7-Up. YUM! It undoubtedly makes me feel all bloated after drinking it, but I don’t care. : )
SJ
You should try Silk Nog. I know the idea seems suspect but it actually takes like a lighter version of regular egg nog which seems like what you do by thinning it with the fat free milk. I’m serious… try it!
Tammy Erow
Nope, Nope, Nope…. I do not like it, Sam I am. I do not like green eggs and ham…. or egg nog!
dannis
Egg nog is not my fave, but in the south, we have Boiled Custard. Have you ever tried it? It is like a milkshake. SOOO good. If they make it in your area, you may want to avoid it…because when it comes to our shelves, I cannot resist:)
michelle @ this little light
Yum! And yes please on the “add a touch of brandy” … but only a special occasion!
Kate Hollstrom
I am a LOVER! I had to hold myself back from buying it this week. This year I really want to try and make my own non-alcholic egg nog and see if I cant get the calories down. But I have found a way to make my own egg nog protein shakes~yum!!
Andrea Yliniemi
I am in the “Hater” category. Something about the texture and flavor about makes me gag. Even the smell gets my stomach rolling. I’m more of a hot chocolate with marshmallows type of girl!
Jill @ Craft in a Northern Town
Mmmmm, I love eggnog. Has to be closer to Christmas though.
Elizabeth Bento-Dalton
I love the SMELL of Egg Nog, just not the taste. Ew.
Deana- soles of a mom {dot} com
I am a lover as well! I’m a dietitian and I somehow play the same crazy mind game…like egg nog= dairy = calcium= strong bones. Drink up and be merry! You have a dietitians blessing!
margaret
Lover or hater – you will LOVE it made at home. And, it’s so easy:
Separate the yolks and whites of six eggs. Beat yolks, then slowly add ½ cup sugar and continue beating. Set aside. Beat whites, then slowly add ¼ cup of sugar and continue beating until stiff. Mix whites and yolks. Stir in 1 pint heavy cream and 1 pint milk. If desired, add 1 bourbon to taste.
Courtney
I love it! I love it plain in tiny amounts, cut with milk or as creamer in my coffee. YUM!
Janie
We love egg nog season around here! We get pumpkin spice egg nog in Oct/Nov and the pure unadulterated stuff all of Dec. We go out for egg nog shakes, we taste test all the new varieties/brands on the market. We love just plain egg nog the best. We like Winder Dairy, Cream of Weber and Meadow Gold the best. I had never tried egg nog until my 1st Christmas that we were married. My husband introduced me to it and now we have 4 kids that are crazy about it! So festive, it means the holiday season is here!
