oh boy, this is all over the place
Sometimes I have too many random thoughts running around in my head and need to get them out. Tonight is one of those moments. So bear with me as I take you all over the place. If you’d rather skip my jabbering, head to the bottom of the post where I could really use your input.
So here we go.
I came across this photo in my files and remembered how incredibly amazing it is.
It was taken by my new dad while in Italy last spring. Beautiful. Doesn’t it look like a painting?
…………………………………………..
This kid is giving us a run for our money.
We’ve always known that he has some spunk to him, but really? Must he throw a fit about everything?
He can be the most wonderful little boy with the sweetest voice and funniest comments. We really do enjoy him most of the time. But take his sword or use the wrong sippy cup or look at him sideways and he becomes a different creature. We’re determined to win this battle, but my goodness it is exhausting!
…………………………………………..
I am not really a work-out kind of girl. I’d love to be. It sounds like fun to exercise and wear cute work-out clothes and be toned, but when it comes down to it, it is just about the last thing I am motivated to do. Most of my girlfriends run {many of them wake up at 5:30am to all go together … crazy ladies} and I am just not a runner. It hurts my lungs.
But I do like pilates. I grew up a ballerina and so I call pilates ‘ballet laying down’. I found my old Windsor Pilates dvd and popped it in a few days ago. And now I no longer like pilates. My abs hurt.
…………………………………………..
Our baby girl has some crazy hair. It is wispy and hasn’t all filled in yet. She was looking a little more like bozo the clown than I’d prefer.
{ewww … clowns are creepy}
So we gave her a little trim.
I don’t think she likes it. For the record, neither do I.
…………………………………………..
Speaking of hair …
did you lose your hair post-partum?
I did with my boys, but nothing like how I am this time. I pull out gobs of it every time I run my fingers through it and I find little strands all over the house and on my children. Yuck. Perhaps too much information was just shared.
…………………………………………..
I love hydrangeas.
…………………………………………..
I also love these
I’m pretty sure I could eat an entire bag in one evening. The worst part is, they are so disgustingly plasticy and I fully realize it and still love them.
…………………………………………..
Hmmm, anything else?
We go through a lot of milk around here.
I heard Project Runway started a new season and I can’t wait to watch it.
My book club is reading The Help and I need to start.
My niece & nephew are coming over for a spend-the-night tomorrow night. I’m so happy my kids have cousins that they can grow up with.
One of my new favorite bloggers {Meg Deurksen} does crafts from Deep Space Sparkle. We tried this craft this morning and it was such fun. We’ve been trying to do ‘drawing & writing time’ each morning and this website will give us some great ideas to keep things fresh {and to avoid me looking at one more picture of a star wars battle hanging on the fridge}.
{Ethan’s finished project made for his friend Iris – the coolest little girl who likes the most absurd creatures – crows, sharks and slimy sea critters are some of her favorites}
…………………………………………..
Okay, I think the random thoughts are all cleared out for now.
…………………………………………..
Now on to more important things that you’ll {hopefully} actually care about.
I am going to do a week of favorite project tutorials all next week. I will do one a day and would love to know what you’d like me to show. Are there any projects you’ve noticed in my photos that you’d like to know how to do? I have a few in mind, but would love your input!
Please leave a comment with your suggestions and I’ll add them to the list.
And thanks for letting me ramble. You’re the best.

just wanted to let you know that my hair is falling out too and i have a daughter that i believe is the same age as yours. and, i didn’t loose near as much with my son. maybe it’s a girl thing ??? maybe so many more hormones in our body or somehing. i don’t know, but it sounded good.
Dena
Yes, gorgeous photo! I love how God’s creation inspires and easily trumps my most creative moment. Beautiful! As far as tutorials – I’d love a tutorial on how you made your template on the computer!
Tonya
After each of my girls (I have three), my hair has fallen out in clumps…YUCK!!! That photo is beautiful, my two year old tests me daily (she bites and hits her big sister), I’d love to see how to do any of your projects, but I’m pretty sure that I’m nowhere near as talented as you – so it probably wouldn’t work (which is why I NEED to win your contest) =-)
Have a great weekend!
Julie
You weren’t kidding, that was some random thoughts. Your son and my daughter must be cut from the same cloth. Her crown is perched onto of her horns (I love her). I had tons of hair fall out after both my son and daughter. Can’t wait to check out your tutorials! Thanks for dropping by my blog and commenting on my chair!
Michelle
Please!!! A tutorial on the blue ruffled cushion!
Also your daughter has the most beautiful dark blue eyes!
Megan
I’ve never associated my hair falling out with post pregnancy but now that you mention it it seems to make sense! Mine falls out like crazy, I had a a little boy in March and ever since I pull out a ton, especially in the shower. I now remember having that same issue after my other 2 as well.
My 4 year old is the one who tests us, he repeats everything and thinks he is a grown up and can do and say what we do! Our 2 year old is beginning to take after him after watching and mocking everything he does… How is it one minute they can make us red in the face and the next they make us want to cuddle and never let them go?!
Em
the pages from a book wreath. no question.
P.S. LOVED the randomness of this post!!
kim
The drapes in the nursey. And the ruffles:)
Tonia
I agree Em, the pages from a book wreath. And the other decoration you made out of pages too, with the shiny object in the center. I can’t wait to see all the tutorials.
And that picture is beautiful. The depth & texture he captured is amazing. At first glance it reminded me of a scene from those blue children’s Bibles in doctor’s waiting rooms.
Have a great day!

I had a baby 7 months ago…and for the last 3 months or so I lose hair like it’s an illness. It’s started tapering off (which means I only lose 1/2 lb of hair or so every shower). I think it’s actually a test to see how much hair a woman with SUPER fine baby hair can lose without having visible bald spots.
Parenting is not for the faint of heart…..your future daughter in law will thank you for not letting him think everything gets to go his way and how he wants. But that has to be told to him now….and she WILL thank you.
Definitely the pages wreath and how you made the stripes in your little boy’s nursery…that you painted over. gasp.
And keep fighting those battles.
Blessings and encouragement to you today!!!
fancythis
OOH – definitely the pages wreath like Em said.
And just because I’m curious – your window room divider. Is that even an option to show? Cuz I’m dying to see how you did it.
Heather
I am new to your blog and so happy about it! However, as a newbie, I’m not even sure what I would like to see. But I look forward to next week.
Also, I am guessing your little guy is about the same age as my youngest daughter?? (mine is 2.5) And these past 2 weeks have been trying with her, to say the least. I’m so sorry you are in the same boat, but I’m glad not to be in there floating alone.
Have a fabulous weekend and keep up the wonderful work.
PS What about ruffle pillows..Have you done a tutorial on those yet? All the pillows from your summer boutique were lovely.
Jennifer Lynch
I’ve been following your blog for a while now, and this was my favorite post. It’s so fun to get peeks into another person’s life, so thanks for sharing! BTW, what kind of camera do you use? I’m looking to upgrade so I have better pix of my kids for posterity.
cali
I thought I was the only one! My hair fell out like crazy after my Molly was born 12 months ago. I mean it just stopped falling out like last month – and now I have these wispy new little hairs growing in all over the place that stick up all at the wrong times. Thank you. I’m not alone.
I love hydrangeas, I love those plasticy candies, I hate clowns, and my Molly has an M shirt just like your son’s. I’m so glad to find a kindred spirit and I’m loving your blog! =)
Angie S.
A tutorial on painting furniture would be nice. Your painted pieces always look so nice… mine, not so much!!
Tessa
This post made me laugh! I happened to like your random thoughts. So how about a tutorial on how you do it all – 4 very young children, you are always dressed mighty cute, a beautiful home, a home based business…I could go on!
Seriously, I’ve decided you don’t require sleep!
Love your blog!! Just kidding about the tutorial – kind of…
Susanne
I wanted to first comment about the hair loss. My first is 4 months old and my hair has been falling out like CRAZY!!! It’s impossible to wash my hair without getting clumps of it mangled between my fingers and I have to sweep the floor every day after getting ready. It’s completely gross. I hear it will stop eventually, but it can’t happen soon enough!
I would love a tutorial on how you make your terry burpcloths. I recently got a used sewing machine and would like to begin to learn to use it!
I saw your burpcloths and was going to give them a try thinking it would be great for baby gifts. I was going to wing it, but if you’re willing to give a tutorial, that would probably work out better for me.
Love your blog!
Chelsea
I have twin girls and my hair fell out like crazy postpartum. I also loved the randomness of this post. Sometimes it is nice to get all the crazy things in your mind out there for everyone else to see
. Definitely start The Help, it is great!
Amoreena
Since you already gave us one on the beautiful painted wallpaper, I’d love to make a paper wreath! Thanks, Emily!
Kimberlee J.
I just found your blog this week via a blog friend and you are currently one of MY favorite bloggers…as well as Meg! Glad you linked to her!
cailan
Thank you for sharing about your dear little boy troubles today. I needed that. Last night our three-year-old darling kept us up until after one o’clock (a first for us), completely wound-up and utterly irrational after our nephew’s b-day party. He’s the oldest of our three, and I love him so, but when he’s crossed his frustration level always skyrockets to a 10 – he has no idea what a level 4 or 6 looks like. The battle feels so constant at times, but, yes, they are worth fighting for! My hair also fell out like crazy after my twins, and now my head is full of little wispies. Looking forward to next week – don’t suppose you could do a Step-by-Step This Is How I Decorate an Office or Pull Off a Summer Boutique with Four Little Kids in Toe????
Melanie
This post was so interesting. My son is 2 and my hair started falling out pretty badly about 3 mos after he was born. I think it finally stopped about 3-4 mos later. I think if I ever had another child I would go to the dermatologist about it to see if they could perhaps reduce it or stop it. My hair had gotten longer than it had ever been before in my adult life while I was pregnant. But it does eventually stop.
On a design note, I loved your tutorial on the painted wallpaper and printed out the template yesterday. I will send pics when I finally use it. I would like a tutorial on how you painted and distressed your black furniture pieces and perhaps how you created the wallpaper template. Thanks so much for taking the time to post all of your beautiful work. You seem like you’re doing a great job of raising your children! Best wishes!
abby
I love the windsor pilates but unfortunately my hubby made me get rid of them {they were the vhs version} I have a new ab video I love that has some pilates in it. It’s called 10 minutes solution: blast off belly fat. It has five, ten minute ab segments but it definitely tones other parts of my body too. I like that I can do just one real quick or do several segments in a roll.
My hair has fallen out a lot more with my second baby. He is 18 months old now and it is still falling out.
This isn’t a tutorial but I would love to see more of your kitchen!
Sarah C
hey
)
I am loosing gobs of hair right now
( Little man is 7 months old.
My book club did “The Help” this Spring, you’ll love it.
I just started following your blog so don’t know my favorite projects of yours yet….but I’m doing some mini-make-overs of several rooms right now so sure you’ll give some fun inspiration!
annie
Hi! I love the picture that your Dad took.Wish I could snap my fingers and be there.
I can’t wait for the tutorials next week….as far as what you should pick? I just love the wallpaper in the foyer from the book pages. Can you explain how to do that, oh and the book page wreath too.
My hair fell out with my 2 girls and it drove me crazy! It must be a girl thing.
Have a great weekend !
Jill Lee
4 kids are exhausting, and frustrating, and a beautiful gift. I swear mine are harder now at ages 10, 8 1/2, 6 and 4 then they were when they were your kids ages. I lost gobs and gobs of hair with mine as well, a normal right of passage I guess! Would love to have the time to decorate the way you do, trying to make it! Working on my office this weekend, with your’s as inspiration! Would love to know how to make the ruffle pillow and the flower headbands/pins that you and your daughter wear!
Michelle Marsh
Hey there,
I too love your random post! Right up my alley and I am with you on the working out part. I personally hate it and don’t make the time. I’m 44 now and have a 4 and 5 year old — and therefore no excuse not to get in shape. I have 4 lbs. to go to “pre-baby” weight, with a ton of toning to do. I just prefer to read and play with my kids, cook, craft, decorate, etc. That is more important, right? On your hair, just to let you know, my colorist (I saw her just last night) told me that this is “shedding” season. So, even though you are losing some due to it being post-baby, know that some is also due to it being a typical time to lose hair. Lastly, I think your hair is adorable. So much, that I saw how you wore it for your botique (side pony-tail with flower) and have been wearing my hair this way for a while now — and receiving many compliments! My hair is also very fine, so know that this is a great style for those with thin hair! Oh, sending you a silhouette order soon! xo ~Michelle

I’m so excited about your willingness to share!!!! I LOVE, love, LOVE your tutorials. I would love to know how to make the hair roses – I’m not sure what you call them. I don’t know how in the world you’ll choose but all I can tell you is that I can’t wait to learn from you!
Keep up the good work! I love your heart and your randomness. Your honesty is refreshing!
Rachel
To answer your blog question, I would love to see some of the crafts from Audrey’s nursery featured in your tutorials. Or your monogram’s or sillouettes, or how to do some basic graphic design…pretty much anything and everything. I would love to spend a day picking your brain and crafting with you.
On to random things….the picture is gorgeous and does in fact look like a painting. Some kids just give you a run for your money, consistency seems like the key…I lost bunches of hair postpartaum, especially after my daughter…different hormones when you have a girl so they take a different toll on your body than with a boy (you probably had more morning sickness and acne too…just a guess), I’m one of those crazies that gets up at 5:30, but I hate running (still do it anyway)…do what you love…you may like zumba if you were a dancer in a past life. My daughter had crazy hair growth when she was around 6 months or so. It was all worth it though, she had beautiful hair as a toddler…and I love hydranges, especially in a huge silver vace.

This blog made me laugh. Mine is usually all over the place, but it’s for that reason alone, that I blog in the first place.
Not only that, but we have a 3yo, that reminds us that we do know how to count to 10. I wish he didn’t have to remind me so many times in one day. I’m going to have to start learning some new languages! My can count to ten perfectly in english, french and spanish. Gotta mix it up a bit!
I have 2 boys and my hair fell out by the handfuls with the first and not as bad with the second? And now I have those lovely 11 mo post partum wispy “bangs” at my forehead.
LOVE hydrangeas, they were my main wedding flower! I also used them to tell my parents and in laws that we were pregnant.
I do not bother to buy the large bag of twizzlers, because I will eat them. All.
I have herad “Help” is a great book! Can’t wait to read it!
I can’t wait to see what your favorite project is!
jolene
Random thoughts ~ love them. I have them all the time! I love how you always have include pictures of your children. I didn’t take near enough pics of my kids growing up ~ it’s all those little moments that pass you by…
I am so looking forward to your tutorials next week! Your office turned out beautifully ~ as much as I love the paint technique, I love the chalkboard wall even more. The scripture at the top is perfect!

*I had my last child at 38 and lost a lot of hair the bad news is when it grew in it was gray. Thank goodness for hair color!
*I read the Help and it was a great book. Hope you enjoy
*I’d love to know how you get so much done and be a Mom to your brood. Do you sleep much!
*Thanks for all your inspiring posts!

The Help is one of my favourite books! I read it last summer with my sister and we both just loved it!

Oh, can I second the book page wreath? I really want one for my guest bathroom….I have the perfect spot.
meg duerksen
that turtle is FAB.
very very creative! my talby would looove it.
i have heard of lots of womens hair falling out after having babies…it must be a hormone thing.
Zanetta
Yes, the hair falls out postpartum. Mine continued over the years until it was embarrassing. Now, at 48 I have found a nutritional supplement that is a God send. My hair is growing back in and I feel amazing.
I can’t wait to see what you’ll come up with for 5 days. We’ll love anything you post!
lori lucas
Well let the old lady of the group chime in!!!! I have five children ages 28-21. Let me just say ‘the randmoness’ of that post only intensifies as the children get older and busier!!!! ha!
After one of my pregnancies I also lost tons of hair. I was beginning to think that 1.I would soon be bald or 2. There was something very very wrong with me and my babies would all be without a mother! I finally asked my doctor and he said it was normal and eating iron filled food would help. (The only problem with that is the iron filled food is not usually the ones we are craving as busy mothers!
Enjoy your babies while you can. I know it is hard to believe, but you turn around and they are grown. You’ll believe me.
Some day! Lori L

I love the fact that you have four kids, love to craft, decorate, and sew! I would love to see a post on where you keep your kids toys! I have yet to see a toy around, and I am about to go crazy with toys around:) I would love to see a tutorial on your stationary. Thanks so much for the inspiration.
Kel
YEAH!! I am new to your blog and am LOVING it!!! I have soo many questions, but I have one pressing question since I am in a hair crisis….
Is that your natural red hair? I LOVE IT!!!! I am dying to dye my hair that color and wondered if it was au natural! If it is….God has blessed you!!! If not…share the secret!
thanks friend!!!
Following your blog now!

Yes! totally lost so much hair postpartum, seems like its more with every child.
Love! that you were willing to cut Audreys wispies (is that a word??), its always a shock as first but will be so much better!
2nd the paper wreath idea, but love all your projects, can’t wait to see what you post.
Where did you find the awesome feed bins (or what looks like) that you have in Audreys changing table, been meaning to ask you that for months.
tak care! Kirsty
sara
project runway is great so far! i also LOVE hydrangas. my hair started falling out after baby #2 and he’s 4 now and i still lose it in handfuls everyday in the shower, sigh. red licorice is one of my favs too! i knew i loved your blog!!
Aimee Jongejan
Random comments: My son is six and he still isn’t out of that highly-spirited-totally-throws-Megatantrum-about-completely-insane-reasons phase, so, um…yeah
Unless you take an awesome nutritional supplement like I do (its called Shakeology, you can email me for more info if you’re interested cuz I’m totally not one of those weird people that leaves comments trying to sell stuff on other people’s blogs). Oh, and I’d love to see the tutorial about the ruffle pillow too! The end
My hair is still falling out and my DD is 2!
Energy comes AFTER you start working out, not before
Kim
Hi. New to your blog and I love it. You have a great eye for design. About the whole hair thing. It’s natural. Something about pregnancy hormones cause you to not shed (or at least much less than normal) while pregnant. So your hair should be thicker and fuller while pregnant. Once those hormones leave, so does all that hair that was supposed to have shed during the previous 9 mo. So it just seems like you’re going bald but it’s just catching up. Annoying, I know!
My daughter just turned 4 and I refer to her as Dr. Jekyl/Mr. Hyde. Never sure who I’m going to get with her. I think maybe a middle child thing? I don’t know. There weren’t any middle children in my family.
Any tutorials would be great. In fact, feel free to do more than 5!
tammy
can I just say that when I read your posts i feel like we are sooo much alike. I always have “rambling thoughts” and so many dreams / interests and never feel like i have enough time to figure it all out! Not to mention I always am feeling like I am lacking as a mom. Then I read your posts about drawing time in the morning….. now you REALLY have me feeling like a not so good mom! I just got out the work books last week to get Elly reviewing and learning her letters for kindergarten but then before you know it I am telling me oldest son that he does not need to be holding hands with this young lady who is wearing booty shorts! LOL I am always feeling stretched, lacking and hair constantly falling! I love beautiful things, I want my kids to show a little more respect, I want to eat healthier and run Boston Marathon (or just to say I qualified!) On the other hand I want to start taking up sewing, become more involved in the kids schools or think about working in a boutique ~ like yours! Then there is the list I have ignored that God has called me too but feels so taunting at times! So all of this to say….. I hear your heart of “randomness” and I am so glad that we have a Father that knows us better than we know ourselves! You are an amazing mother, wife and friend and so very gifted in your creative ability! I would LOVE to see any of your tutorials.
Amber B.
Found your blog through Tatertots and Jello. Love it!! And yes, losing the hair gets worse for me with each kiddo. My youngest is 8 months and the hair is growing back, but now my head is covered in short little baby hairs and looks crazy all the time. haha!!
Christi
Yep… that hair-falling-out-thing…. thought I was going to end up looking like Kojack’s sister. It did seem like a LONG time until it stopped. And then come the baby hairs! My hair also seemed to get darker with each pregnancy…. oh, and I went up a shoe size with each baby, too! Yes, childbirth was painful, but so was ridding my closet of all those cute size 7 1/2 shoes!!!
Jen lassonde
The Help is an amazing book! I actually listened to the audiobook which is read by different characters who are telling the story! It is a wonderful way to experience the book (and I got mine on loan from the library so it was free).
ENJOY!
p.s. i LOVE your flowers! I have a bunch of material at home and can’t wait to try that technique.
Kenora
I read “The Help” but no one else I know has read it ~ I’d love to have a bookclub to discuss it with. =[ I’ve always wanted to join one, but I would probably revert back to seventh grade when I hated every book I HAD to read.
Loving your blog, as always.
renae
i’ve had so much fun reading your blog today, i came here via layla at theletteredcottage. you’re a hoot! my boy (he’s 3) is sounding a bit identical to yours. sometimes he makes me laugh so hard my stomach hurts, other times i want to cry because i’ve failed at being a mother. but it will pass…i keep telling myself that. and i too lost TONS of hair postpartum. i loved seeing my babies pulling hair out of their mouth as infants. disgusting. loved reading your blog, did i say that already?
Kate
Just found your blog — love it! You make inspire me AND make me laugh — perfection! I wanted to let you know, the woman who cuts my hair (and has three daughters) told me to keep taking my prenatal vitamins after I had my daughter. She said it’s the only thing that she’s found to help the hair falling out problem. My daughter just turned 5 and I’m afraid to stop taking them — will all the hair that quit falling out fall out by morning?! Anyway, I do find it to work (and no I didn’t have the hair problem after having my son…). Had to laugh at your Star Wars comment! I just told my son yesterday I might like a different drawing than Anakin for the fridge…
