on the hour

It’s InstaFriday at life rearranged and this week I decided to play a little game. I was curious what my day actually looks like from hour to hour and so instead of sharing the past week with you, I thought I’d show you a day in the life of Emily. Exciting stuff, I tell ya.

I snapped a photo each hour {the timer app came in handy!} with brief explanations below.

6:30 – wake unusually early. Lay in bed and think. Pray for my sugar daddy who was having surgery that morning {it went well}. Checked email on my phone {i heart you, iphone}.

7:30 – work out video with my friend Cathy Syphers on Fitness TV.

8:30 – older boys off to school

9:30 – carpool little boys to preschool

10:30 – toddler story time at the library with Audrey’s besties

11:30 – sip a latte, listen to hokey pokey over and over and over while we wait for preschool to get out

    12:30 – lunch time

1:30 – little miss down for a nap, playdate for No. 3

    2:30 – work

    3:30 – after-school snack

    4:30 – piano practice

    5:30 – hair appointment

6:30 – looking good under the dryer

7:30 – new highlights! Summery and fresh.

8:30 – book time with the boys

    9:30 – back to work

    10:30 – still working

    11:30 – ahhhhh. bedtime.

And that was my day. Not completely typical since I get my hair done about once a year, but mostly true-to-life.

This was a fun experiment. I highly recommend it. Made me think about where I spend my time, reminds me of what a good life I have and proves that my days are long and constant. No wonder I love my bed so much.

    *** A few notes to add ***

    1. yes, I eat breakfast & dinner – just not on the half hour, I guess. So no photos.

    2. yes I have a husband and I like to hang out with him. He was at the fire station this day, so there was no hanging out.

    1. I am just curious bc trust me there are days that go by and I think did I take time out for God today? Do u have a quiet time and if so what do u do? Love new ideas! :)

    2. What app did you use? The time app. Only reminds you. In your Photos it looks like your phone is on a dock and taking pictures. Is that so? Or did you just remind your self and open the camera app
      Your self? Thanks.

    3. A friend of ine started doing 10 on 10. On the tenth day of the month you take a picture every hour for ten hours. I look forward to the 10th every month because I love to see what my day looks like and I lover reading her posts too.
I did like how you did you whole day.
On the mini van, we got one right before our third came along. They are now 1, 2, 4 and we love our van. I would get leather if you can and the automatic doors are amazing.

    4. Just a quick response to the minivan issue. I have six children and I just couldn’t cave in to the whole minivan thing. Kind of like Emily, we chose a suburban. We have gone through four of them and loved them all, especially all the room and the heavy, safe feel of them. Great for taking up to the mountains in snow. Plus, my husband has always loved being able to put the seats down and fit a whole sheet of plywood back there. Great when we were in the midst of multiple remodelings. Sorry, guess that wasn’t really “quick”

    5. Hi – love this idea! I may try it soon!

Thanks for sharing your day with us – i like the everyday normal stuff!

      And random is good too!

      have a great weekend!

P.S. i finally started a blog ACK! I finding my footing a bit but come say hi if you get an extra minute!

    6. Hi Emily, I have a quick question about the car you drive…is it a minivan? I am pregnant with my 3rd and we need a bigger car. I will have 3 under 3! I’m pretty young and afraid of the “minivan”. How do you like yours?? I feel like my childhood will end when I buy one! I know, I’m so silly. Any other mothers with minivans please let me know how you like it! Ok, thanks for letting me do a completely RANDOM comment…

      1. Ashley – I’m 31 and have a 6 year old and a 1 year old and we just got our first minivan last month. Believe me, I swore for YEARS that I would NEVER buy one (my mom drove one and that was enough reason for me not to!). But after baby #2 came along and son #1 started wanting to bring friends home and such, I understood the need for a bigger car with a 3rd row.

All that to say that I’m a total convert now. I love my Chrysler Town and Country. It’s awesome. And I don’t feel like my mom either, if that helps. :-)

      2. I drive a Ford Expedition. We are due for a new car in the next year or so and we’ll get the same thing {only this time we’ll go for the extended version with a slightly larger trunk space}. Ours has two captain seats in the middle row which makes getting to the back easy. Minivans are SO convenient, but we really like this car too.

    7. What a fun post!

Would you mind sharing where you got your adorable iPhone case? I love it.

P.S. Your new name prints are precious. My favorite is also the burlap horse!

    8. Looks like a busy day! You have a lot to juggle, and I know how you feel about loving the bed after every day being “busy days”. Wonderful that you fit in a hair appt. for you (not that your hair looked bad!) Those “for you” times are important.
