sweet book themed baby shower

My sister-in-law, Jess, is due any day with her first baby – a sweet little girl. We’re beside ourselves in the Lex family because it will be the first new baby since Audrey and we’re just slightly baby-crazy around here.

Since Jess is a lover of literature and she has already been showered with more gear and clothing than she knows what to do with, we went with a book themed baby shower to help build up baby girl’s library.

Between Ryan’s mom (crazy talented with a pretty house and garden full of flowers), Jess’ best friend (super organized and sweet and great hostess) and me, we put together a special party to celebrate mama and baby.

I was in charge of invitations and lucked out because Anna Bond of Rifle Paper Co. had already done the work for me :) She created these darling invitations (found here for free) and I modified them slightly to work for our party.

We decorated my mother-in-law’s home with lots of book page garlands, flowers from her garden and a few large paper flowers to bring some pinks into the decor.

We kept the food simple and delicious – banana bread with cream cheese spread, fresh fruit, curried chicken salad sandwiches, mini cupcakes with strawberry cream cheese frosting and iced tea with raspberries or coffee to drink.

We played a few games (this one was pretty cute), visited with family and friends, opened gifts, snacked on yummy food and prayed over Jess and baby.

At the very end we snapped this group photo, but we’re missing about half of the ladies. Note to self: take group photo at the beginning of the party next time.

It’s always so fun to celebrate a new mom and soon-to-arrive baby.

Audrey is especially excited to meet her cousin. She can’t stop touching Auntie Jess’ tummy. We can’t wait to finally hold and snuggle the new baby girl!

    1. Robyn aka Grandma Nonna

The teacups are a Wedgwood pattern called Queen’s Plain and the crystal glasses are a Mikasa pattern.

    2. Do you have the answers to the game you played at the book themed baby shower: “Can You Find the REAL Children’s Book Name?” I’d love to use it at our next church baby shower.

I look forward to looking at your blog every day! God has truly blessed you with creativity.

    3. Adorable!!! I love the theme and everything looked so beautiful!!!

Congratulations to your sister-in-law and family!! How exciting to have a new baby coming soon to the family! Praying for her as she prepares to meet her baby girl!!!

    4. What a precious party, I’m sure mom-to-be felt so loved on. The little details are just beautiful and what a find on those invitations! You out did yourselves ladies!

    5. What a sweet baby shower! Beautiful, too! I do have a question though: I looooove those tea cups, would you mind sharing where they are from? Thanks in advance!

    6. What a lovely shower!
I can’t believe how much Audrey has grown up! The photo of you praying (love that btw) she looks just like you!

      1. I know – she’s growing way too fast. It doesn’t help that in these photos she has makeup on leftover from her ballet recital that morning :)

    7. I LOVE this idea! A long time ago you wrote a list of your favorite books and I went out and added King Hugo’s Huge Ego, which I loved. Have you read any of these:

      – “I Like Myself” by Karen Beaumont (I love the illustrations, the message and the ethnic character)
      – “Special People, Special Ways” by Arlene Maguire (love that its a book about disabilities)
      – “Do Princesses Wear Hiking Boots” by Carmela Coyle (For little feminists!)
      – “Little Elliot, Big City” by Mike Curato (set in NYC)
      – “Only One You” by Linda Kranz (Good advice even for adults!)

    8. Beautiful!! You did an awesome job, as usual. We did a book themed baby shower for a friend a few years ago and I thought it was so easy to decorate and layer together and pretty inexpensive since you could use old book pages for decor (we did the pennants too!)
