getting to know you

I typically take the weekends off from blogging. But I’ve been thinking lately that I’d like to have something fun up on my blog over the weekends, so I’m starting a new feature.  It’s called

getting to know you

My ‘in real life’ friends know that few things make me happier than asking silly ‘getting to know you’ type of questions. The more awkward the better!  Maybe its annoying, but I think it is fun.

So each Friday, I’ll post a new question or fill in the blank statement in an attempt to get to know each other better. Just leave your answer in the comments if you want to play along.

Let’s start with something a bit light-hearted:

My answer: hands down, Survivor. I’m sure I would not win and I think the bug bites alone would drive me to insanity, but there is something so adventurous about it that appeals to me.  Plus, Elisabeth Hasselbeck was on it and I think she is cute.

Can’t wait to hear your answers!

Chopped. Not because I’d win. Just because it’s the only one I’ve ever seen.

So You Think You Can Dance!!!!
I’m a dancer and would love the experience to work with so many others great dancers and choreographers! :)

  3. cari burke November 14, 2010 at 7:05 pm #

  4. Lauren October 14, 2010 at 7:20 pm #

Amazing Race!!! My mom & I have even said we would be a great team.

  5. tracy September 18, 2010 at 8:51 am #

  6. emily September 17, 2010 at 5:39 pm #

house hunters international — which would mean i have enough money for a vacation home in an exotic location . . . so here’s wishing.

  7. rebecca September 16, 2010 at 11:19 am #

Amazing Race. Or Big Brother. Sigh – I love reality tv. Bad.

  8. Amy R. September 14, 2010 at 8:05 am #

Hi there! I would love to be on So You Think You Can Dance – as a guest judge though because I can’t dance like the people they have on there! I just am amazed by their talent. And any HGTV show where they make over my house would be great. :) LOVE Design Star too!

  9. Chelsea September 13, 2010 at 3:55 pm #

Amazing Race! IF I wasn’t scared of heights and eating weird things!

  10. Molly September 13, 2010 at 3:11 pm #

I have to admit, I would LOVE to be on THE HILLS! Hahha, I wouldn’t be able to keep a straight face, all the ridiculous drama would make me laugh too hard….

  11. Melanie September 13, 2010 at 3:05 pm #

I’ve considered forging a design portfolio so I can meet Tim Gunn on Project Runway.

  12. gg September 13, 2010 at 1:04 pm #

i’ve always wanted to be on “amazing race”. me and a co-worker/friend seriously thought about applying for it because we worked so well together but we were scared of our true personalities coming to life.

  13. laura @ thedesign411.blogspot September 13, 2010 at 12:33 pm #

    Amazing Race. No question!

  14. Lucinda September 13, 2010 at 12:33 pm #

Nerd alert…I don’t watch reality TV. I’m more of a Gray Anatomy kinda gal.

  15. Jenn September 13, 2010 at 10:02 am #

Well, initially I didn’t answer this question because I’m very out of touch when it comes to tv (in general) and reality tv (in particular). But last night we sat and watched Extreme Makeover Home Edition. My husband made the comment that Ty Pennington has the coolest job. And yes, I agree. If I could be on any reality show, it would have to be that one…and not as a recipient, but as a helper. How wonderful would it be to help someone in this way and turn a life around?

  16. Tonia September 13, 2010 at 7:42 am #

Oh, the Next Food Network Star. And {guilty little secret} The Real Housewives of New Jersey. =)

  17. Aja September 13, 2010 at 6:27 am #

When I was younger and in college (and single!) I always wanted to be on the Bachelor.. not to find “love” or anything, but to have fun with the girls and stir the pot. :)
Now I think I would choose Dancing with the Stars to get in awesome shape and learn to dance!

  18. Lynda September 13, 2010 at 5:53 am #

I’ve been watching Flipping Out and actually feel bad for Jeff – his staff is a bit spacey. That’s the show I’d be on and I figure we would get a long just fine. I’m actually friends with one of his best friends from high school. Thankfully she moved to Michigan and she is a lot of fun. I call Jenny from the show “The new Nancy” because they are similar in their humor and goofiness!

  19. Nicola September 12, 2010 at 9:52 pm #

It would HAVE to be the Amazing Race – I love to travel, not just the destination – but the journey as well! Couldn’t do it with DH though, we would have too many disagreements!

  20. fancythis September 12, 2010 at 9:12 pm #

    what a fun game!
this one is easy to answer. America’s Next Top Model. hands down. I’m a tall girl {5’10”} and I LOVE the fashion industry, so I would have a ball. plus, I’d love to be photographed by Nigel Barker. also, it would be nice to have a normal sized woman on that show!

  21. Diane September 12, 2010 at 8:29 pm #

Hi! I wanted to let you know that I gave you an award on my blog! :)

    Have a great day! :)

  22. shelly lambert September 12, 2010 at 7:08 pm #

Okay… you had a photo of Audrey at 6 months… where in the world did you that white dress????? please please please e-mail me… ssolamb@comcast.net thank you thank you thank you!!!

  23. Brighton September 12, 2010 at 6:46 pm #

    The Osbornes. Hands down.

  24. heather September 12, 2010 at 4:18 pm #

I love your blog, and I love reality tv shows. It is hard to choose which one I would like to be on. I would love to be on What Not to Wear so that I could purchase a fabulous wardrobe! I also love Sarah Richardson. I would have no trouble having Sarah and her assistant Tommy redecorate my house! At the same time, I wouldn’t mind meeting Jeff Lewis. Oh, and I would LOVE to be best friends with Tim Gunn, Gok Wan, and the Fabulous Beekman Boys!! :)

  25. Wendy @ the Shabby Nest September 12, 2010 at 3:54 pm #

Dancing with the Stars! I’ve actually said I’d like to be a celebrity *just* so that I could be on Dancing with the Stars. ;-)

  26. stephanie September 12, 2010 at 2:32 pm #

So You Think You Can Dance! i wouldn’t get far, but i’d love to dance like they do.

  27. Shannon September 12, 2010 at 2:14 pm #

What a fun idea! I cannot tell you enough how much I love your blog and style. I would want to be on the Amazing Race. My husband and I would be a team and our tag line would be vegan teachers. Can you tell we’ve thought about this one? :)

  28. Lisa B September 12, 2010 at 1:56 pm #

I would truly LOVE to be on “Sarah’s House” on HGTV. Watching as she and Tommy banter back and forth and re-do a house/cottage/farmhouse, etc in need of work. I love Sarah Richardson as an interior designer and her and Tommy together are a great pair! He is a riot – seriously!

  29. Arlene Grimm September 12, 2010 at 1:47 pm #

Project Runway if I had creative ideas! I can sew but I am always amazed at what these designers come up with on such short notice.

  30. Cathryn~The Farmer's Trophy Wife September 12, 2010 at 1:37 pm #

Oh Survivor, FOR SURE. Although I know I’d be the first voted off. I am loud and can be a little bossy….I’m a mommy, what can I say. :)

  31. Heather September 12, 2010 at 1:35 pm #

I totally want to be on the upcoming HGTV show with the new Design Star, Emily. (Secrets from a Stylist is what they are calling it right now.) The pilot episode was amazing and I loved her style and personality all through this season of Design Star. I would be in heaven if she came to my house.

  32. Lucy September 12, 2010 at 8:31 am #

This is going to sound weird but I wanted to be chosen by the “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” people. I’m a girl but I wanted so bad to be groomed, dressed, taught something new in the kitchen and get my house fix by these guys. :)

BTW I recently started following your blog I LOVE IT! You have absolutely great taste!

  33. joy September 12, 2010 at 8:20 am #

I would love to be on the Biggest Loser!

  34. emily September 12, 2010 at 8:08 am #

    Wipe Out for sure.(:

  35. Jessie September 12, 2010 at 5:12 am #

Ok. Am I weird? I would love to be on 19 kids and counting. I’m just amazed by that family. I would just love to shadow Michelle and see how she does it all.

If that doesn’t count and if I need to choose one with contestants, then I choose Project Runway…gotta brush up on my sewing skills! :)

  36. Jo in New Prague, MN September 12, 2010 at 4:28 am #

Definitely the Bachelor. Not that I want a man…the one I have is enough. I would try to be just good enough to keep hanging around, but they get to do such cool things and go to such interesting, beautiful places. Plus you don’t really have to expend much energy on that show. Yes, I’d be on a show where I could wear cute clothes, eat yummy food, sip cocktails and see the world!

  37. patricia September 11, 2010 at 11:09 pm #

hmmm. I am not a big reality tv fan, but I guess project runway or Dancing with the stars….

  38. Melissa Head September 11, 2010 at 10:38 pm #

My brother and I are dying to be on Amazing Race. Sadly if you are an elected official you can’t try out or we would have tried out. Soooo much fun!

  39. Melissa Head September 11, 2010 at 10:37 pm #

My brother and I are dying to be on Amazing Race. Sadly if you are an elected official you can’t try out or we would have tried out. Soooo much fun!

  40. Queen B September 11, 2010 at 8:57 pm #

I think the Amazing Race would be a lot of fun!

  41. shayla September 11, 2010 at 7:48 pm #

Let’s see, What Not to Wear, Divine Design, Design Star, 24 Hour Restaurant Battle, So You Think You Can Dance, Dancing with the Stars, and finally, Project Runway. LOVE them all! I don’t have the talent to be on any of them but it’s a fantasy, right?!

  42. Nancy Hood September 11, 2010 at 7:43 pm #

What NOT To Wear!!!!! I so need a makeover!!

  43. cassie September 11, 2010 at 7:35 pm #

if i was 10 yrs younger and had talent, i would so be on american idol! i love that show! and i love to pretend i can sing!

  44. Kristi Ross September 11, 2010 at 6:59 pm #

I can’t believe how many Amazing Race answers there are – My hubby and I don’t watch it anymore, but we used to dream about going on it too. I think Design Star would be pretty darn fun to be on.

  45. farah September 11, 2010 at 6:33 pm #

What a fun idea. I would LOVE to be on Design Star! I could do some damage with someone else’s money.

  46. Jennifer September 11, 2010 at 6:09 pm #

So sad but there are so many…yard crashers would be awesome, or the new curb appeal (the block). Amazing Race would be fun, but I am pretty sure I’d be divoriced upon our return to the states! My husband and I are both pretty competitive!
Such a fun way to know your readers!

  47. cassi September 11, 2010 at 3:25 pm #

I wanted to be on Road Rules, think that was what it was called,. It was a spin off of Real World. They did things like sky diving while traveling the US.

  48. Caroline September 11, 2010 at 2:48 pm #

Amazing Race – hands down! Though I think I would prefer to watch my husband and daughter be a team as they would be sarcastic and cut-throat and a hoot to watch!!

  49. Sabrina September 11, 2010 at 2:02 pm #

I think doing Amazing Race with my husband would be tons of fun :)

  50. Amanda M. September 11, 2010 at 1:16 pm #

Definitely Jerseylicious (not Jersey Shore). I think I’d absolutely love dressing so over the top and doing over the top makeup and hair! SO fun!

  51. GoodGirlGoneGlad September 11, 2010 at 12:50 pm #

The amazing race!! How fun would that be?!

  52. Mary September 11, 2010 at 12:32 pm #

I would love to be on So You Think You Can Dance, cause I would kill to have a dancers’ butt.

  53. Tracy September 11, 2010 at 12:13 pm #

My first choice would be “Biggest Loser”, even if I didn’t make it to the finals. My second choice (after finishing “Biggest Loser” and being in great shape, haha) would be “Wipeout”. My whole family loves watching that show and it is pretty funny to what crazy stunt they will come up with next.

  54. Michelle September 11, 2010 at 11:56 am #

Top Chef hands down! Either as a chef or judge.

  55. S. Shaw September 11, 2010 at 10:57 am #

Another for Amazing Race! I would team up with my brother; I think our personalities & strengths would make a great combo for the skills needed to get through the challenges on that show. I’ve always thought we would have a darn good chance if we ever went on it! ;)

  56. kayce hughes September 11, 2010 at 10:48 am #

Just found you via simply selita. I never ever watch TV except last year I watched 9 by design. I think that it would be fun to know another family with 7 kids so I would pick their show.

  57. Leslee September 11, 2010 at 10:13 am #

Well, I can’t lie… I think I would absolutely lovve to be on Survivor… I’m a super adventurous girl that loves the outdoors and although I don’t think I would win it… I think I would do pretty good at it and learn soo much about life…
    Have a great weekend!

  58. Marissa September 11, 2010 at 10:05 am #

Hmm…either curb appeal or any show that gets my house remodeled. Since the house that our 4 almost 5 people live in is about 800 sq ft. I’d love to see a show where they redo houses under 1000 and show you how to live with alot of people in small spaces. Organizing, space saving, inspiring design spaces for those of us that don’t live in “normal”sized American houses!

  59. beth September 11, 2010 at 10:04 am #

the amazing race! I absolutely love that show and think my husband would be the perfect one to go with me. I think we communicate well already, but it would really push us more and challenge us in great ways! Plus, he is amazing with directions and traveling!!

  60. emily September 11, 2010 at 9:35 am #

You all are FUN! Thanks for playing with me. I love the answers – and I’m realizing that I want to be on 10 different shows. What Not To Wear, Divine Design, So You Think You Can Dance, Amazing Race, Top Chef {as a judge, of course} …

  61. Samantha September 11, 2010 at 9:25 am #

I would want to be on either House Crashers because I would love to tear down walls and work with power tools.

But the girly side of me would want to be on Cupcake Wars- even though they have to bake with some crazy ingredients! But I love cupcakes and I think that would be really fun and challenging!

  62. Lindsey September 11, 2010 at 8:38 am #

OK I have a secret desire to start dancing again so that I could be on So You Think You Can Dance. The problem is that I am a little too old and if I wasn’t good enough while I was dancing to keep dancing chances are I would be the one they show of the people who think they can dance but can’t.

  63. Lisa September 11, 2010 at 8:36 am #

The two I love and wish I could do would be the The Amazing Race or Project Runway. But it would be fun to have a room or whole house makeover, too.

  64. Casey September 11, 2010 at 8:29 am #

The Real World, if I were still single. It would be fun to party like that! lol

  65. april's craft nest September 11, 2010 at 8:19 am #

i agree…most definitely a home makeover show on HGTV-candace olsen’s divine design!!! she is my fave designer!

  66. april's craft nest September 11, 2010 at 8:18 am #

i agree…most definitely a home makeover show on HGTV—candace olsen’s divine design!!! she is my fave designer!

[WORDPRESS HASHCASH] The poster sent us ‘0 which is not a hashcash value.

  67. Sandra September 11, 2010 at 8:08 am #

I think it’s a 3 way tie…I love love Zoila and Jeff…so maybe Flipping Out…But I just watched On The Road with Austin & Santino and they had me in stiches…They are a riot! Then again that $5,000 cc from Stacy & Clinton is very appealing :) NY & shopping ♥ That would have to be it for me :)

  68. dorylyn September 11, 2010 at 8:07 am #

    Rachel Zoe Project!!!

  69. Briana September 11, 2010 at 7:59 am #

The Amazing Race-no doubt about it! My husband and I love watching it together and we always pick who would do each detour, our biggest problem would be getting places because we don’t quite read directions the same way. :)

  70. Meghan Beck September 11, 2010 at 7:55 am #

I would love to be on Candice Olson’s Design Design on HGTV. My DREAM is to have a kitchen/great room remodel. My next choice would have to be The Biggest Loser. I actually don’t even watch that show, and I only want to lose 20 pounds, not 200, but still…I bet they would whip me into shape in no time.

  71. teresa September 11, 2010 at 7:51 am #

Okay, so I may be showing my age…but I haven’t watched a reality show all the way through…except shows like design star on HGTV so I guess that would be fun….but I would probably get kicked off first because I couldn’t keep up…but it would be fun.
    Fun post.

  72. Teresa S September 11, 2010 at 7:43 am #

I love to watch Project Runway and America’s Next Top Model, but I don’t have the talent or the looks to be on either. My husband and I think Survivor and Big Brother are such interesting experiments on social interaction, but I would go NUTS! So I am left with the only one that I think I could handle and remain sane… The Amazing Race! Now, I will admit that I would have a few issues with keeping myself calm when things go wrong because a cab driver is lost, but it would be a great adventure!

  73. Jenna September 11, 2010 at 7:08 am #

Well…I don’t watch much TV (we don’t own one), so I’m not too up on reality TV shows – but considering the few I do know, I think I’d go with the Amazing Race. I love to travel and be a little zany, so I think that would be right up my alley!

  74. Lauren Elizabeth September 11, 2010 at 6:51 am #

First, I love your blog! Its such an inspiration and I’ve gotten so many great ideas!

I would LOVE to be on the Amazing Race! I definitely have the travel bug and I love all the extreme stuff (bungee jumping, zip lines, etc) they have to do for road blocks. Fearless! Not going to lie.. I feel like me and my little sister could win!

  75. ellie September 11, 2010 at 6:47 am #

The Amazing Race. for sure. Our family loves to travel – and we’ve adopted children from Ukraine (spent 1 month there) and China (3 weeks on that trip) plus we’ve lived in Hungary (6 months) and Australia (4 years) so I feel we are living The Amazing Race. Great getting to know you question!!!

  76. WendyO September 11, 2010 at 6:45 am #

We love the Amazing Race but my husband would be more suited. Like previous commenter’s I’d love anything on HGTV—those Design Star challenges look mighty fun!

  77. shelley. September 11, 2010 at 6:42 am #

I’m with AmyL. Definitely What Not to Wear. These days I need help! No clothes that feel great and no funds to remedy the situation. Not sure I could endure the snide comments or the humiliation of the 360 degree mirror, but I’d sure try. =)

  78. Dianne September 11, 2010 at 6:41 am #

i don’t know how “reality” this is…but i would love to be one one of the HGTV shows. Like Divine Design…or Yard Crashers or something. My inner diva would love to be on American Idol…back in the day when it first started and was still awesome…not now. That’s definitely on my…shoulda pursued it then list…

  79. Taylor September 11, 2010 at 6:40 am #

American Pickers! I would love to travel across America digging through “junk” with Mike & Frank.

  80. Jen September 11, 2010 at 6:32 am #

I’d want to be on Top Chef but I’d want to be one of the regular judges!

  81. Liz September 11, 2010 at 6:31 am #

Survivor for me too! We used to live in east TN, and my application video was going to be how if I could survive there, I could survive anywhere!

[WORDPRESS HASHCASH] The poster sent us ‘0 which is not a hashcash value.

  82. Rebekah September 11, 2010 at 6:06 am #

What Not to Wear, definitely. I’d LOVE to have $5000 to spend on clothing, all that great guidance on what would look best on me, and a fabulous new hairstyle.

    • emily September 11, 2010 at 9:32 am #

I’m so with you on that one Rebekah!

  83. Michele September 11, 2010 at 6:02 am #

The Amazing Race for sure! I’m not a celebrity, but I’d love to be on Dancing with the Stars. I’m not even a good dancer. It just looks fun.

  84. AmyL September 11, 2010 at 5:49 am #

I want to be on What Not to Wear. I need a makeover in a serious way. Plus I want $5000 to spend on myself.

  85. Lauren September 11, 2010 at 5:30 am #

Fun new feature:) I LOVE Project Runway…but I can’t even turn on a sewing machine. My other favorite reality show is Design Star. I think it would be so fun to take on some of those crazy challenges. Plus I’ve loved Vern since he was on Trading Spaces…his name makes me giggle! Vern Yip…hehe:)

  86. Ms. Bright September 11, 2010 at 5:09 am #

I’d LOVE to be on Gordon Ramsey’s F-Word or Design Star.
I also have dreamed of having Samantha Brown’s job, which is sort of reality, right?

  87. Britny September 11, 2010 at 5:01 am #

Technically I have done the Amazing Race because I was a flight attendant…hahaha!! So, Flipping Out!! I love Jeff Lewis! But, I would also have to be on The Rachel Zoe project because I love fashion–and I think Rodger needs a non-fashion friend to watch football with and drink a beer (just sayin’)! Ok, and one more show! On the road with Austin and Santino! I don’t even know if that is the name of the show, but I love Austin Scarlett and Santino Rice! They are hilarious together!

  88. Joan September 11, 2010 at 4:43 am #

I would be on Project Runway. I love to sew and to design clothing would be so much fun.

  89. amy@maisondecor September 11, 2010 at 4:42 am #

I’d like to be on Design Star….that would be a lot of fun!

  90. ashley September 11, 2010 at 4:35 am #

Without a doubt…Dancing with the Stars!

  91. Rachel @ La Bella Bungalow September 11, 2010 at 4:34 am #

Definitely Flipping Out! Jeff is a complete a**, but I can’t get enough of the show!

  92. Amy Lynne September 11, 2010 at 4:22 am #

Yard Crashers! It would be so cool to have someone bring in a team to tackle my backyard and help us finish it. I would get over not wanting to be in videos for that one!

  93. Keri September 11, 2010 at 3:54 am #

*blush* The next design star would be my first pick… not so much because i think i would be awesome… but because i could meet Candice and all the other great designers.

but Amazing race runs a close second!

  94. Kimberlee J. September 11, 2010 at 3:09 am #

    Amazing Race!

  95. Emily September 11, 2010 at 12:10 am #

I too have to say the Amazing race. I absolutely love watching the show although I dont know who would be able to put up with me being their partner… I dont always handle stress well :)

  96. Jen @ homeinthecountry September 10, 2010 at 11:30 pm #

    such a fun idea!

i have to admit to trying out for the bachelor back in the day. my roommate and i waited in line for 45 min at the mall of america, and walked away with a rose & a polaroid for our trouble.

now, though, i’d probably want to be on project runway. because that would mean that i’ve got mad sewing skillz, which would be super-cool! :)

  97. Tara September 10, 2010 at 10:28 pm #

There was an extremely short lived reality show on HGTV (which I recently heard someone refer to as the real estate channel now, seriously, bring back the decorating shows!) that featured a guy who restored old houses on the east coast. It showed him salvaging in dumpsters and painstakingly bringing an (updated) house back to its former glory. I can’t even remember what it was called, or if it had more than one episode.

P.S. I emailed you a while back asking for tips on holding my first barn sale, and I have to say, it went so great. I really appreciated your tips and ideas. Check out my blog at www.junkrestore.com if you want to see what mine was like…

  98. Sarah - Citified Country Girl September 10, 2010 at 10:07 pm #

This is going to be fun. I’d have to say The Real Housewives of… :)

  99. Darcy September 10, 2010 at 10:03 pm #

Definitely The Amazing Race. We actually auditioned for the show like 6 years ago, but nothing ever happened. It was a bummer, but that was the year they stayed completely in the US so I wasn’t too upset watching. It would be such an adverture. When I was younger I was obsessed with Survivor too and wanted to audition, but never did. I think that would be my runner-up though. Good question!

I have ALWAYS wanted to be on The Amazing Race – it looks so amazing to travel and see all those places… I just wouldn’t want to be “that couple” that fights all the time!

When I was younger I wanted to be on Real World SOOOOOO bad. Now, not so much. Its a lot different, I think, today than it was back then. Not just me- the direction of the show.

A reality show today- ummm… I really have no idea. Something on HGTV where they make over my house, does that count?

It would have to be “Flipping Out” because I am hugely infatuated with Jeff Lewis! His sense of humor is the BEST! Plus I love Zoila and “Deb”! HA!

    Great feature!

I would LOVE to be on The Amazing Race.. travel the world with my husband for free, compete for a money prize, and have spectacular arguments on national television. What could be better than that? :)

oooh, that’s a good one. The only problem is that I would want to stay in all those amazing places for more than 24 hours!
