    paint colors

Paint is good. It is inexpensive, easy to apply and can transform any room in a matter of hours. We like to paint and find ourselves repainting rooms often. I thought I’d share some of the colors we currently have in our home. They are neutrals {no surprise there} and they go with everything, but be sure to try out a sample in your home to see how the color looks in different light.

Our home was painted from top to bottom in a great neutral wheat/gray/beige by Rodda {HFH09 – relaxed khaki}. This is the color that is in our entry, the base coat of my office and the stripes in the boys’ room. However, I can’t find a sample online and I believe Rodda is only found in the Pacific Northwest, so here are some comparable ones I found by holding up my Benjamin Moore {BM} fan deck to my walls.

This is a soft blue-gray that doesn’t really look like this swatch on the walls. Sorry about that. It is a bit lighter and softer in real life.

It is pretty similar to the ever-popular Silver Sage from Restoration Hardware

    The bed & shelves in the nursery are painted this sludgy gray-blue-green {also not very well-represented by this image}

** NOTE: while you can never get the color to match perfectly, we typically have the paint swatches color matched at our local hardware store. It is not the fanciest paint, but seems to do the trick **

    1. Thank you so much for sharing!!! I’m planning on doing a laundry room makeover. These suggestions are a huge help. Hopefully I’ll have a post up soon to share the updated look.

    2. Thank you thank you for posting this! We are finishing our basement and want to try for the greige tones and your post totally inspired me! I will definitely be checking these colors out at the paint store! Having a starting point when picking out paints is the hardest part for me, but now I have it! :)

    3. dear Emily,
first off, allow me to express my gratitude for your generous writings– in comparison your ‘giveaways’ look ..limited (chuckles))

your present post could not have come at a better time for me, as we r about to repaint indoors. however, given our particular -gifted dry- mediterranean coordinates, our color palette hosts much warmer hues, i.e. amber, cinnamon, terrracotta, etcetera.

may i kindly ask if you would know nd share, how would one safely paint large vertical stripes? once in the past, i had painted the wall a base color entirely, nd then (measuring identical sections) taped o/s the stripes to be painted the pairing color. only that method resulted too in a ..lighter tape-width vertical line, once/wherever the tape was removed. the border lines were not pretty crisp either. cannot blame the tape quality, as i did use several differnet ones to improve the look, while too awaiting longer for the first coats of base paint to dry well.

note, my wish is to have a candy stripe effect, something of the ribbon look found in wrap/wallpaper.

      warmest regards .

    4. i love the silver sage so gorgeous! our whole house is painted in relaxed khaki, but it’s by sherwin williams and i love it. i only went through about 5 different beiges to find it, but it was worth it. i wonder if it’s the same as your brand. love your colors!

    5. yet again, love your eye…my main floor is in Revere Pewter, love that it is a warm gray, and my kitchen/dining room is silver sage. I really like the texas leather too!

    6. We are remodeling and I am losing sleep over the paint choices. I am glad to see that you mix the grays and tans/beiges. I was nervous that if I used a grant beige in my boys’ rooms that I couldn’t use gray in the hall and in to our bedroom. Hmmm…great suggestions. Thanks!

    7. I love the collection of these colors. We painted the walls of our living/dining room in our new house and used Martha Stewart’s Cobblestone which has turned out beautiful in our new home. I absolutely love it.

    8. I found this posting on your blog 2 weeks ago while searching for your most trusted paint colors, marched into Ace and bought two gallons of Grant Beige without bothering to test first (much to my Ace representative’s disapproval). I told him I trusted you. It turned out beautifully!! Funny you reposted this today!

    9. Love your colours, very serene & lovely! We are building and I am agonizing over the perfect white! Does anyone have any suggestions for a warm creamy, milky white? Thanks!

    10. Choosing paint is SO HARD for me, so I just got other people’s colors. Really, I would walk into someone’s room and request the name of their color. For example, my bedroom is the same color as my neighbor’s kitchen. My kitchen is the same color as my friend’s guest bedroom.

      I LOVE to paint stuff!!!
