Coffee Chat Episode 18 | My, how time flies

Welcome to a new episode of Coffee Chat. I’ve missed chatting with you!

The last coffee chat was right after we brought home baby chicks (watch it here) and here we are and those fluffy little chicks are now fully grown feathered hens ready to move outside. How did the time fly by so quickly?!

In today’s video, I’m talking about our road trip (we left one year ago!), a great recent read, a new class, crying babies and much, much more. Enjoy!

  • Our family took a pretty amazing 3.5 month ROAD TRIP one year ago to the day. Here is a page with all of our stops and posts from each spot.
  • I wrote a massively in-depth post with answers to all the most asked road trip questions – how we planned, how much it cost, what we did for school, etc. You can read that one here.
  • Spoiler Alert: the road trip will be featured in the spring issue of MAGNOLIA JOURNAL. Excited to see it in print!
  • We traveled last weekend to a cute COASTAL TOWN in Washington with friends. I love all of their kids, but I’m pretty smitten with their youngest :)

  • I love teaching online CLASSES! A new flower class is set to open monday (fingers crossed!). Details to come …
  • This ARMOR OF GOD study has been so life-giving and life-changing for me. You can buy the workbook and rent the DVDs to do it on your own or with a group.
  • I just finished TODAY WILL BE DIFFERENT. It’s darling and quirky and such an entertaining read.
  • The same author also wrote WHERE’D YOU GO, BERNADETTE, which I also thoroughly enjoyed.
  • Come hang out with me on INSTAGRAM for more day to day life

  • The cute RUFFLE-SLEEVE SHIRT I’m wearing in the video is from J.Crew Factory and is currently on sale for $24.99.
  • I’m drinking (water, not coffee, strangely) from my favorite MUG.

Thanks for watching, my friends!

(And sorry about the weird muffled sounds. I have a fancy clip-on microphone and it must not have been in the right spot.)

TOTALLY awesome you’ll be in the Magnolia Journal. Those posts deserve that unique honor!

Also love that you are ad free! Thank you! It’s annoying when they pop up right on something you are trying to read and then you can’t get them to close, even worse is when they keep a blog from loading on my ancient iPad. Ads have greatly decreased my blog reading, unfortunately. And love Armor of God, Breathe is another great one too. Actually, every one of her studies I have done is engaging. Spending Saturday night with your coffee chat!

Thank you for no ads!!! I have unfollowed some bloggers because they are so intrusive and annoying!!!

Have only been a follower of yours since the beginning of your road trip last year and have loved all your posts! Keep them coming!

As always this is so fun to watch. Do you have hair extensions?

    • emily May 3, 2017 at 12:52 pm #

      I don’t :) I just have lots of hair.

I LOVED “Where’d You Go Bernadette” but, man, “Today Will Be Different” totally stressed me out. I hated being in the mind of someone who didn’t have a clue about who she was or what she was doing (though I realize this is a common experience), but also it felt a lot like Bernadette re-hashed.

    The Bible study sounds great.

    • emily May 2, 2017 at 3:34 pm #

It has been a few years since Bernadette – so I had forgotten a lot of the story. I think that helped :)

Funny I never realized you don’t use ads! I knew I always loved reading your site but that really explains why – the layout is soothing and not cluttered. I enjoy the coffee chats too! They make work breaks fun!

I love coffee chats!!! Thanks for doing them! Just starting the Present Over Perfect study and will have to add Armor of God to the list. :)

  8. Andrea April 30, 2017 at 2:34 pm #

We did the Armor of God study this spring, too – life changing! On a much shallower note, I love your top ;)

    • emily April 30, 2017 at 10:40 pm #

      It’s pretty cute :)

Have you read any Sarah Joi? She’s a Seattle author too… just finished Always and Blackberry Winter… super engaging, easy storylines- love!

    • emily April 30, 2017 at 10:40 pm #

I haven’t, but I’d love to give her a try! Thanks for the suggestion.

Love your coffee chats and the fact that you don’t use advertising! 💕

Sorry to be mean but throw out the jeans! They are tacky looking….the real fashionable one do not have the big holes in the knees….either do it right or don’t do it at all! Love the top and necklace….

    • Amy May 1, 2017 at 1:16 pm #

I think she looks darling in everything she wears! As women, let’s encourage each other, not tear each other down!

      • Dee May 3, 2017 at 11:29 am #

        The jeans are adorable!!

Loved your Coffee Chat, as always. :) And I am SO EXCITED that you’re going to be featured in Magnolia Journal! I’m subscribed to it, so I’ll be eagerly flipping through to find that article. ;)

Just took an 8 minute break during cleaning house to put my feet up and listen. Thanks for making it enjoyable! Back to putting sheets on beds!

  14. Rachel April 28, 2017 at 2:46 pm #

I have always appreciated the layout of your site including the no adds, but also just how clean and pretty it is…just like your house! Any chance of getting an ID on the sweater you are wearing in the beach pictures? I noted it on instagram and here on the post and while I can’t see the whole thing it looks super cozy!

    • emily April 28, 2017 at 3:59 pm #

Thanks, Rachel! Here’s the reason I could never be a fashion blogger: everything I wear is either old or purchased on sale and no longer available :) This is the case with the sweater in the beach photos. I bought it this winter from the gap and it is no longer available.

  15. Sara April 28, 2017 at 2:16 pm #

Check out Breathe by Priscilla Shirer! Totally different perspective on the Sabbath :) Thank you for the coffee chats – Its so neat getting suggestions on miscellaneous things. Can’t wait to see your road trip in the Journal, but honestly you covered it amazingly!!

    • Catherine May 2, 2017 at 8:22 am #

Thanks for the rec Sara! I too went through Armor of God with a women’s Bible study in the fall and I loved it. So much good stuff!

  16. Melissa April 28, 2017 at 1:19 pm #

I absolutely love that you don’t have ads. It is a huge pet peeve of mine on other sites. It is a pleasant reading experience & aesthetically as a design blog, it adds & not takes away from your page.

  17. Amy April 28, 2017 at 12:01 pm #

Coffee chats are my favorite. Thank you for putting yourself out there. (side note: I am equally glad you do not have ads on your blog.)

    • emily April 28, 2017 at 12:17 pm #

      Thanks Amy!

  18. Jean Hebert April 28, 2017 at 11:36 am #

Love the white top and necklace you had on in your coffee chat episode 18. If you don’t mind sharing where you bought them from, I would be excited to know.By the way, love your coffee chats! They are relaxing to watch. :)
    Thank you so much!

    • emily April 28, 2017 at 12:17 pm #

I snuck a link to the shirt into the bottom of the post :) The necklace was a random find from a little store in the mall a few years ago, so no helpful link to share.
