Coffee Chat Episode 22 | back to school, hurricane help, freebies for you

Happy Friday!

Sometimes on fridays I like to do a thing we call COFFEE CHAT. If we were hanging out in real life sipping coffee, perhaps we would chat about these things. I basically jot down a few topics, turn on the camera and just start talking. It’s not scripted or polished (and sometimes the camera is not perfectly focused – oops!), but I hope it feels a tiny bit like we’re just visiting like old friends.

So grab a cup of coffee, press play and let’s chat!

HURRICANE HARVEY – how to help:

PAPER WORKS September collection is perhaps my favorite of all time.

You can join the monthly membership and receive all of the files to download and print on your own, or we send out professionally printed sets on the 16th of each month so you can get a jump on the month ahead.

Grab the SEPTEMBER FREEBIES – a calendar, note page, those cute lunch box notes and a wallpaper for your phone and desktop screens (a pop up should appear where you can enter your email address to receive the free items).

Have you tried VOXER or MARCO POLO? Both are fun (and easy) alternatives to texting or facetime.

Come hang out with me on Instagram @JONESDESIGNCOMPANY

Earlier this week we talked about what to do with all the PEARS we have. There were so many great recipe suggestions. If you need ideas, head over to this post and read through the comments.

Also on instagram was my public declaration that I WANT TO BE AN EARRING-WEARER. I currently own three pairs: diamond studs, these drop earrings and the square ones I’m wearing in the video. Any suggestions?

Wishing you a great Labor Day weekend!

Thank you for sharing about your move! We are in the process of planning a move for early next year and it’s scary. We’re currently in South Texas and hoping to move back to Oregon or Washington (fingers crossed – I miss my trees and the weather!!), but I’m even a little nervous as an adult to do the whole “make friends and found our place” thing. Sometimes I think it was easier in school to meet new people than it is as an adult :)

I’m not a big earring person either, but I’m always trying to wear them more often. In fact, I’m playing around with the idea of getting a second ear piercing when I turn 40! I always have a hard time picking earrings out. I was gifted an “earring of the month” subscription for Christmas, and I loved it! Different earings from around the world, and I did have to pick them out. Check it out, http://fairtradefriday.club/. Your purchase supports women and their families from around the world.

Nickel and Suede make the BEST earrings! Worth every penny (and I’m usually far too frugal to spend money on myself). Lightweight, trendy, get compliments all the time and elevate my mom look to fabulous. ;)

Thanks for the wonderful post! We just moved two months ago from the PNW {Bonney Lake, WA} to the Houston area and it has been quite the adjustment. Then the Hurricane hit, we are so fortunate to have minimal damage and are seeking ways to help here. Our kids start new schools next week and they haven’t met any kids yet so I really appreciate your words of encouragement! Keep posting pretty pics of home for us to enjoy :)

I don’t have a lot of earing. I just don’t buy jewelry for myself hardly ever. I use to work at a restaurant that was located on a Golf course and the ladies golf group gave all of the servers a pair of Peal earrings. I was not sure about them at first. I just was not used to wearing pearls at all, but I grew to love them. They are one of my favorites. Plus, I love telling this story because that is how us ladies should treat each other. So many times I see women being ugly to each other. I love that they wanted to thank us in such a way!

I’m with you when it comes to jewelry and keeping it simple and delicate :) I found Saressa Designs from the small things blog a few years ago and her earrings are my favorite! They’re all I wear now. Most of them are beautiful Druzy stones with many different shapes, colors, and size options. I own about 5 different ones and rotate them with outfits and they are still in perfect condiontion, so great quality too! You’ll have to keep us posted on what earring you find that work for you! Love these coffee chats :)

I love the gold & crystal bar studs and earring jackets I just bought from J.Crew Factory. They are simple, dainty & versatile enough to go with everything, from a casual t-shirt & jeans to dressier outfits. Since I’m not a dangly earring person they are the perfect step up from the plain pearl studs I usually wear. And they feel a bit more edgy and cool than what I usually wear too!

I love earrings! I love drop earrings, I love boho earrings, I love vintage earrings, I love classic pearls and diamond studs. Just stop by TJ Maxx or Nordstrom Rack and see if you can find YOUR style….like maybe find a signature look — I love pearl earrings and have probably a dozen styles and also love turquoise & silver as I I am a Nevada girl, thus I have many pairs with turquoise in them. Watch for people wearing clothes that appeal to you/suit you and look to see what sort of earrings they wear. Anyway…It’s late and my mind is scattered, but I want to encourage you with the earring thing!

Happy to hear the kiddos are adjusting well to their new school. Pear honey is easy to make and delicious on biscuits. There are several recipes on the internet. I was at Costco yesterday and made an donation and the cashier said a lot of people has been donating generosity.

Funny – Your earrings goal was actually mine too when I turned 40- I needed to fancy up just a bit! I found saressa designs to have really beautiful and high quality earrings I can wear comfortably all day . They are unique but understated at a fair price. I still don’t have a lot of earring but I wear all my faves and feel more put together even in my Casual momiform. Have fun!

Hi Emily! I wanted to share with you about some great earrings I recently discovered. I, too, have not been much of a earring girl. About 95% of the time I wear just small classic pearls! I had the same exact thought about stepping up my earring game. A friend of mine here in Snoqualmie makes the cutest earrings. You can check her out on Facebook… Maddy Ryan by Lindsay Walters. They are large teardrop shaped earrings that are lightweight because they are made out of leather. I have one pair and have received so many compliments on them! I intend to go back and get another pair for the fall! I think she is starting to offer other shapes and is also making some out of wood now. They are gorgeous!

Thank you for the suggestion! I’ll look her up …

Earrings — only quality — gold or sterling silver for the posts, if you find some handmade ones you like, go for it. I personally like the ones with long backs. They can quickly slip on and I do not have to worry about them falling off. I have lost several when the back were not long enough and one fell off. My very favorites, I only have one of the set left— rats!

Thank you so much for sharing a bit about your move and how the transition has gone for everyone. Our family is moving from NY to Virginia later this year – it will be exciting and wonderful, but also a huge, scary change. Knowing others that have gone something similar definitely helps ease those fears!
