Have you ever wondered how to turn your handwriting into a font {or to simply create a font!}?
About a year ago, I discovered this fun app that allows you to create fonts, gives you lettering templates and is so easy to navigate. It is a big hit with everyone in our household.
While you may not get perfectly connecting letters and hundreds of extra glyphs, it is a super simple way to turn your handwriting into a font.
You can purchase the iFontMaker app in the app store {it is $6.99, which is spendy for an app, but totally worth it, especially because you can create as many fonts as you wish}.
You can watch the full tutorial for how to create a font on the iFontMaker site, but it’s quite simple: open the app, select paintbrush size and font you want to use as a template, then draw each glyph. I use a stylus for extra control, but you can use your finger as well. Once your letters/symbols are drawn, click the button to build your font, follow the prompts and then download to use on your computer {if you need help installing a font, scroll to the bottom of this post to learn how. It’s super easy and so fun.
I made a few new fonts using this app {you can learn how to download them all below}.
One of the best things about creating fonts this way is that my kids love it too. Audrey likes to trace her letters {great practice!} and the boys drew out their writing which we turned into cute penmanship fonts. Now we will always remember what their printing looked like at nine, seven and five.
So grab the app, draw out your letters and have fun with your new fonts.

There’s a free site that will let you turn your handwriting into a font as well. I’ve used it and it doesn’t look quite as smooth as the iPad app, but it gets the job done! http://www.myscriptfont.com/

i love this app!! it makes me so happy to see that someone else loves it, too! for so long i would search & search for the perfect font for a project knowing that it would be a miracle if i came across one that resembled what was in my head. it’s also fun for just playing around…it reminds me of writing all over my book covers in school :)
