Entry updates for spring

I’m on a total lighten + brighten kick lately and the entry was next to get a quick makeover.

(Mason didn’t know I was snapping pictures when he walked downstairs and I actually love that I captured him in this one!)

Since December, we’ve had our vintage theater seats and a favorite Lindsay Letters Doxology canvas in the entry. It was perfect for the winter but started feeling a little heavy for spring. So while the kids were being thoroughly entertained by their almost three-year-old cousin this weekend, I took a few minutes to freshen up the entry. I used to move furniture around way more often than I do now and I sort of miss it! It makes a space feel totally different and you don’t have to buy anything new! Win, win.

In the entry, I moved over the bench that usually sits under a big mirror to the right as you walk through the door (see it in its normal spot in this post). I actually tried a few different pieces there, but the little bench felt the cleanest.

(Also, notice the difference in photo quality with only natural light and a more intentional angle! Same iphone camera, just a few little tweaks.)

Let’s talk about the giant tree limb for a second.

I know, it’s weird. But I felt like I needed more height to help the botanical prints tie in with the bench. Plus, I love adding fresh greenery and we have an abundance of trees in our yard, so I just cut a really, really big branch, popped it in a large vase (this one from Target) and I kind of love it.

As for those darling botanicals … they are from the May Collection of Paper Works – our monthly subscription club full of stylish printable designs.

Anyway, back to the botanicals. I just downloaded the files, printed and framed them using leftover thin gold frames that we used to sell in our shop with mats I bought on sale at Michaels to make them look fancier.

They look sweet all grouped together, but they would be cute on their own as well. Maybe added to an existing gallery wall? Or as a gift for Mother’s Day?

I like what’s happening in the entry now. It feels lighter and spring-y and cheerful. Operation lighten + brighten is off to a good start!

    Happy May Day!

    1. The entry looks really beautiful. It looks so refreshing with that branch. Thanks for the idea. I have also updated my entry recently. I have placed a Himalayan salt lamp on the table to make it more attractive. This lamp gives off a very warm glow which is perfect to welcome the guests.

    2. Do you happen to have a flush mount light in your entryway? I saw a glimpse of a light , but can’t see it fully. I’m looking for a new one and can’t seem to decide on one! Any ideas would be appreciated!

    3. This looks great! I am curious where you store the previous items that were there. That seems to be an issue for me!

      1. I moved the theater seats to where the bench used to be. The dresser lives in the dining room – although its not my very favorite in there, but I have nowhere else for it!

    4. Since you are no longer selling the frames in your store, could you share the source? I love them and was only able to grab one of the 4×6 frames when you sold them since they were always selling out. I would love to do a gallery wall like this as well. Thanks for the great inspiration as always!

    5. I love this look! Could you do a tutorial on hanging groups of frames in straight lines/rows like you have done?

      1. I took a few process photos but they were not great, so I’ll just write the steps here:
        1. use a template. I took the cardboard pieces out of the frames and used those to give me a good idea of size and spacing. I just put a little dot of poster putty on the back and stuck them to the wall to eyeball where I’d like the pictures.
        2. Once placement is figured out, find the center of the wall (or space you are hanging pictures) and the center of your grid (mine was the center of the top middle frame) and put a little mark on the wall with pencil.
        3. decide on your spacing in between picture frames and add that total to the distance between the half point of frame 1 and half point of frame 2. This will give you your next nail spot. I used a long level to make sure my nail marks were level.
        4. Continue going horizontal and vertical, making pencil marks where the nails will go.
        5. pop in the nails and hang the pictures!

    6. Love how you move things around. You do such a great job. Everything always turns out absolutely beautiful. Quick question: what do u do with your knick knacks/ furniture/pictures etc. your not using at the moment?

I have a basement full of decorating items that r still stylish and want to keep because like u I am forever changing things in my house.

      1. Thank you!

I have a few spots around the house and in the studio where I keep extra things – vases, picture frames, pillow covers, baskets. I try not to keep too many things because I just don’t like storing them. Usually, I’ll pull furniture and accessories from other rooms when I’m moving things around.

    7. Your bench and branch are the perfect light and airy spring change for this space. Love seeing what you’re doing each step of the way with your new home! It’s perfect!

    8. I love this! It’s really fun to see different looks in the same space. You keep doing what you do and I’ll keep being inspired.

    9. very very pretty! could you share where the striped throw/blanket is from? I’ve got an entry bench that I’d love to give the same treatment! thanks for the tips!

    10. Beautiful!! And I’m so happy that I finally joined paperworks! I saw this photo earlier on your Instagram and was thinking I would love to do something similar… not realizing that I can! Yay! Happy May!!

    11. How do you hang your pictures? If you’re moving them around seasonally, how do you do that without making your walls look like Swiss cheese or spacal/paint every time you switch it up?

      1. I use little picture nails. Yes, they create holes in the walls, but it doesn’t really stress me out. I can fill them and paint over the little holes (or just cover them up with the next art installation!)

    12. I love how you change-up your furniture and walls for a new fresh look. Going to give it a try! Thanks for the ideas!

    13. How long will a branch like this last? I love the look, but don’t have that lots of trees to prune!
