I’m officially an earring-wearer | 12 styles under $50

One of the 40 by 40 items on my list is to wear earrings.

I had this moment this summer when I realized earrings were missing from my life. I’m not traditionally much of a jewelry wearer – usually just my wedding rings, a watch and sometimes I’ll put on a necklace.

There are so many fabulous earrings out there. Big. Colorful. Statement-making. I have tried and I always felt so unlike myself wearing bold earrings.

Then one day while scrolling through instagram, a picture caught my eye with a cute woman with her hair in a messy ponytail wearing simple hoop earrings. That felt like a look I could pull off.

At the moment I declared I wanted to start wearing earrings I had three pair in my jewelry box.

Since then, I’ve acquired quite a few new styles and I’m a happily convert to the world of earrings. Well, at least simple ones.

A couple of these I’ve bought for myself, one was a surprise gift from my sister, I received a few from small companies that make great earrings (thank you to Love Me Some Leather, Noonday and Shelly Dolen!). All are neutral and wearable with almost anything.

    1 | Cowhorn Hoops $28  2 | Cubed Studs $42  3 | Burlap Embossed Leather Signature $20  4 | Leather Bar $15  5 | Mod Marble Studs $36  6 | Gold Hoops $7.99  7 | Small Square Stud Earrings $30  8 | Crystal Trio $9.50  9 | Metallic Teardrop $48  10 | Camel Signature Leather $20  11 | Column Earrings $48  12 | Hexagon Hoops $7.99

And that is my new earring collection. I’ll probably keep adding to it and maybe I’ll add more color at some point, but for now, I am loving all these basics in various sizes and shapes and tones of white, gold and a touch of black.

    1. Have you ever tried Nickle & Suede? Like you, am a 37 year old, no earring wearer. Simple, tiny diamond studs are the only thing I wore for YEARS. And then I discovered these camo leather earrings that go perfectly with my neutral wardrobe and I suddenly feel glamorous at preschool drop off!

    2. all such pretty earrings! I’m wondering if you gave the correct link for the kate spade small square stud earrings. I checked the link, and the description and comments say the earrings are 1/2″ square studs, and that they’re massive and not small as the description states … are they big “diamond” studs? I was hoping for something smaller. thanks emily!

        1. haha good to know! thank you! have you come across any that are just as pretty, but a bit smaller? I love the gold around the “diamond” instead of the silver, which I have a ton of :)

    3. Pretty earrings! I have always worn my hair in a very short, edgy pixie cut, I am 5’2″ and 105 lbs. I love long or dangly earrings but my head, face and body look out of balance and overwhelmed by them. I have a set of white gold and a set of yellow golden medium hoops and a pair of diamond studs. This has been my earring wardrobe for years. It works and always goes with anything, so I admire the fun earrings on others, but stay with those I’m most comfortable.

    4. Question: Do you have sensitive ears? Mine are super sensitive to metals so that’s why I’m not an earring girl. If you are, I’m assuming you don’t have problems with these?

    5. It appears as though the link for earrings marked #10 is not for the ones shown in the photo. Do you have a link for these? They are really cute. Thanks!

    6. I love the simplicity of all of these.I just ordered 2 pairs of the b+w striped ones. One for me and one for a gift. I am a pretty low maintenance jewelry kinda gal myself. Great picks.

    7. Thank you for sharing the links! :) This will be great to reference for buying Christmas gifts for my girlfriends :)

If you love the leather tear drop shape, you might want to check out Nickel & Suede – they have lots of colors and metallic choices, as well as three sizes (small, med, lg.). I’m not a sponsor, I just really love their story, and LOVE wearing the earrings and leather cuffs ;)

    8. Great roundup! I spy the perfect ones for my sisters Christmas present (marble studs). Thanks for sharing, they all look adorable in you!

    9. I am always losing earrings, so inexpensive jewels are a must! The hexagons caught my eye as something just a little different than regular hoops- a treasure from Target! That’s my go-to for everything else, and now I’ll be shopping for accessories there too.

    10. I think you will find as you get older that accessories are more and more fun and they are your friend. As your body changes and (possibly) it’s harder and harder to look fabulous in your clothes, then (possibly) you start to obsess over coats! shoes! jewelry! scarves! shoes! just sayin…..
I love your new earrings and you look adorable in them! – I have some long gold “sticks” that I wear all the time…

    11. This is exactly what I needed! In my 20s I would not have walked out the door without earrings. Or a watch. Now I forget for months and when I do put them on I take them off bc they are just not quite right. I love these options – classic and simple!
