Friday Favorites

Happy Friday! This week was filled with track meets, piano lessons, sitting in the sun, barre class, Audrey’s field trip, closing the watercolor class, watching Harry + Meghan tv specials … I guess all of that makes for a full week.

Last weekend we celebrated Mother’s Day at our house with 17 adults, 11 kids and 4 dogs. It was a gorgeous day and we happily spent most of it sitting outside on our new patio set (see it here) with the kids and dogs running circles around the yard.

This was the best photo we could get and I actually love the story it tells. Ethan is nearly as tall as me. Brady is working towards a ‘man-bun’ and his hair is getting loooong, Mason is as cute as ever and Audrey just likes to giggle. These kids make me happy.

I still can’t believe I have kids this old.

I posted this picture on Instagram this week because the sunlight was just so pretty. Lots of people ask about the rug when I show this part of the house – it is this one. I originally bought it for the studio (see it here), but moved it into the house because I felt like this room could use a neutral rug to cover the unsightly beige carpet that we have yet to replace.

Here’s the deal: it is inexpensive, which is great. And I love the subtle geometric pattern. But it is NOT practical for a space with dogs and kids and shoes and life. You should see how dirty it is in real life. I mean, its passable, but I can’t honestly recommend such a light rug for a common area.

Okay, on to a few other good things from around the internet this week:

+ My sister introduced me to this song last weekend and I can’t stop listening. Click to play and then come back over to finish reading :)

+ Are you ready to up your summer reading game? My friend Anne from Modern Mrs. Darcy just released her 2018 Summer Reading guide and I can’t wait to get started!

+ My go-to nude/pink nail polish color. It’s what I get every time lately.

+ I accidentally ordered the study guide instead of the actual book, but my appreciation for the enneagram continues. This book looks at how different personalities work together in relationships and even reading through the study guide was insightful. Sometimes I forget that my desires and fears and tendencies are not the only ones (duh!) and it helps to be reminded and given tools to encourage, give grace and make allowances for others.

+ These are my favorite scones of all time. Everything from Ina Garten is delicious. I made them last week for teacher appreciation and they were gone in a flash.

+ Did you see all of the reveals for the Spring 2018 One Room Challenge? Sarah from Room For Tuesday (definitely worth following her on her blog, Pinterest and instagram!) put together a really great recap of her favorite rooms. I think this master bedroom is my favorite from the bunch.

+ How do you feel about bootcut and wide leg jeans? I’m feeling the itch to give the style another try in my life and so I ordered these wide leg jeans. I haven’t received them in the mail yet, so I’ll keep you posted. I’m hoping I love them. Here are a few others that caught my eye: J.Crew Bootcut (are bootcut jeans back? Is it time to swap out our skinnies?), J.Crew Wide Leg (are these cuter than the ones I ordered?), Halogen Wide Leg, Target Striped Wide Leg (the subtle stripes on these are fun).

    + Congratulations to these two:

    I can’t wait to watch.

Have a great weekend, my friends!

    1. In the PNW doesn’t it always seem like the street crowd is a year or two behind trends? Right now I think we can wear literally ANY style of jeans and be good as long as the proportions are right!

    2. I’m loving wide legged jeans, with a high waist in particular. Hope the jeans work well for you! I spent a chunk of my Mother’s Day shopping and discovering what size I wear at different stores and what silhouettes work on my current post baby body. I think it’s been at least 5 years since I’ve taken the time to do that. I highly recommend taking the time to go to the stores and try things on. Happy belated Mother’s Day; you have a beautiful family!
