gift wrap love

Among other godly virtues like compassion and patience {you know, important things}, I’m pleased to see that my baby girl is also developing a passion for paper.

So maybe she is more interested in gumming it, waving it aimlessly and tearing it to pieces, but if she is anything like her mama, she’ll carry that fascination with her for a long time {and maybe even amass a collection that I can come play with someday}.

I like paper. I have drawers full of scrapbook paper, even though I don’t scrapbook. And I love this old rusty basket full of wrapping paper so much that it is hard for me to cut into it come gift-wrapping time.  But as I said a few days ago, I do love a fun package, so I remind myself that it is only paper and then I don’t feel so bad about using it for it’s intended purpose.

    Anyway : that’s a lot of rambling.

What I really wanted to write about is where I get my paper.

    paper

If a gift is small enough, scrapbook paper is a perfect thing to use as wrap. With thousands of designs, a nice heavy-weight texture and at only $.60ish per piece, you can’t go wrong.

For larger gifts, I love solid paper.  These ones from Paper Source are my favorites as they are thick, come in great colors and are not too expensive.

Of course, there is always classic kraft or white paper

Click on the image for a link to Packaging Specialties, a Seattle-area store and perhaps my favorite store ever : it is a paper & ribbon lover’s paradise.

My mom buys kraft paper from IKEA. It is a little on the thin side, but you can’t beat the $.99 price.

If you are looking for something a bit fancier, you could try this glitter paper from Paper Source.

Or one of their glitter boxes. Just add a pretty ribbon and you are set!

Last year I made a sweet little treasure box as a gift using the glitter box

I could go on and on :

    paper is good.

    Have you started wrapping yet?

not me : I still need to write a shopping list :

    1. I love this post – I started reading from a link to your gift tags post and scrolled down because I liked the look of your blog. Then I stumbled upon THIS post! I have a paper obsession too and blogged about it several months ago – SO glad there are others who share this (irrational) obsession. Great job with your blog, I will keep reading! (If I can figure out how to get Safari to let me subscribe to your RSS feed … sometimes a problem)

    2. Emily, I’ve been hoping you’d share with us where you get your paper. If I had my way, you’d post where you got each roll from the rusted wire basket. Every time I see that in a picture you post, I drool and long to have a supply like that. If you don’t mind, maybe you can do that as i’d love to wrap with pretty paper, gift wrap just doesn’t make the same bold statement that your pretty paper makes.

    3. Gorgeous paper…thank you for sharing your sources…including Packing Specialties…that place is trouble for paper lovers. And I love your glitter boxes and paper! May have to get myself to a Paper Source. Or do some online shopping!

    4. Emily, I’ve come to realize that your blog has become like a neat little package to me that I get to open every day. (LOVING your Christmas wrapping, etc. by the way…) Keep up the love and Spirit behind your words. They are encouraging, inspiring, and meaninful. –Just thought I’d let ya know!

    5. BWAAHHAAA…How did I know this post was right up my alley? I have an entire room filled, and I do mean FILLED, with beautiful scrapbooking paper. And just like you, I HATE to cut into a lot of it because I love it so much. Thank you for your beautiful inspiration I’ll definitely be checking out suggestions.

    6. so happy to hear that i’m not (alone in being) a paper freak! I’m the same way with old books, too! not so much to use or read them, but just to touch and smell them, tie them together with twine, look at them from afar…. did i already use the word freak????? LOVE your paper collection! Also your baby is pretty dang cute, too!

    7. Lovely packages!
Where did you get the red quatrefoil paper in the top picture? I love quatrefoil and am so happy about it becoming fashionable and thus more available.

    8. How cute is that picture with the little one checking out the goods? I would love to wrap in pretty paper, but I just have this thing about how it gets ripped open and thrown away so quickly. I need to get over that, your wrapping is just beautiful.

    9. I love the concept of blogs because I find other people like me that love paper, cupcakes, fabric, decorating – whatever (all the things I would have/do if I had a store!) I love the “friendship” that we share in the comment sections, too! Anyway! I cannot believe I never thought about using scrapbook paper!!!!!! Thanks for the tip. By the way, I ordered my christmas cards fromyou and they. are. fab. fab. fab. The paper!!! I’m so glad I bought them from you! Thanks!

    10. Wow–I love all of your paper picks! Thank you for posting your sources! I wanted to do all plaid wrapping paper this year, but I might need to mix in a couple of glitter boxes :)

    11. I just spent an hour online trying to find nice wrapping paper (through google) and I seriously just gave up with the idea to come to your blog and send you a note asking, “where do you get your paper?” and this is what I saw!!!!! No wonder you are my favorite blogger!!!!!

    12. I think it’s just in our creative personalities to be overly emotional and connected to pretty things in our lives. My office has a similar basket of paper rolls! I love each one so much and hate to cut them. I have to keep telling myself “do not to waste the pretty”. Their purpose is to be used, so we should give them a good life. I’m still working on this. There should be therapy for paper lovers. haha

    13. I’m glad I’m not the only one! I buy scrapbbok paper all the time with the best of intentions but never end up using it on anything…I’m gonna break it out for wrapping paper now–thanks for the tip!!
