coffee chat (scatterbrained edition)

Friends. My brain has turned to mush this week.

First of all, the sky turned dark and it rained for the first time in what seems like months. And when it gets all gray and gloomy around here, it makes you extremely sleepy and unmotivated and blah. So I’ll give credit to the weather for most of my unorganized-can’t-keep-anything-straight mind-frame.

Second, my best friend and her family are here visiting.

kc visiting

And when your best friend and her husband and her three kids are staying in your house, everything else that might be considered important (like filling out the stack of paper work for the kids’ back to school) gets pushed ’til the very last minute. Playing at the park, going out on dates and staying up late to play cards is way more fun than prepping for the first day of school.

But you know what having out-of-town guests does motivate you to do?

too many pillows! / jones design company

Clean out your overstuffed pillow closet.

pillow closet

I might have a small problem with pillows. I just can’t stop. I try to just switch out the covers and use the same down inserts (hence all those white pillow forms), but what do you do when the pillow you like already comes with an insert and there is not a zipper? Cut it apart and add a zipper and then use one of your existing pillow inserts? That just seems too difficult. So I just choose the pillows I want for each season and stack/throw the extras in this upstairs closet and call it good.  I got rid of a bunch, but I’m thinking I need to whittle down my collection even more.

There are more things to share, but first … one item of business:

bundle-and-save

The graphic design class is open for registration. Actually, there are now TWO graphic design classes. The first is called Illustrator for Beginners and is a great introduction to Adobe Illustrator. The second class is brand new and walks you through a bunch of super fun Projects + Techniques to take your skills to the next level. You can take each one individually, or register for both at once and save $20. Registration will be open for a few more weeks, so grab your spot before it closes!

Okay, so we were talking about mushy brains and pillows and my bestie. Let’s also talk about how fun these new Starbucks sleeves are.

We sure do love our Seahawks! Hence, my chalkboard.

(Here’s the original diy for this little gem of a piece that proves to be very useful come football season and beyond).

Speaking of football season, next week is a big blog hop of fall house tours. Mine is set for Monday the 14th, so I did some styling and fluffing and photographing yesterday to prepare. Here’s a little sneak peek:

I’m calling it my early fall home decor. I’m not ready for deep colors and thanksgiving-y things quite yet. I’m still mourning that summer is over and my baby is in middle school and my littlest baby starts kindergarten in 4 days. And mostly I’m mourning that I have to set an alarm and be out of bed in the six o’clock hour. Me and six o’clock are not very good friends yet.

A few more things:

Alright, time to stop chatting. It was fun!

Oh now I don’t feel so bad about my pillow closet. I love pillows. I tried to clean out some unused ones last year and oh how it hurt…lol. I have already filled the spaces with new ones though…also, give your best friend extra hugs…I lost mine last week and it is ever so hard. My mind keeps talking to her, my heart keeps missing her even though my spirit knows she is in Heaven.

We have great ideas, just nothing going at this point :) We’re keeping our eyes open for property to build on so I’ll for sure keep everyone posted if it ever becomes real life!

First-yay for rain!! But it was a little dramatic that we went from no rain for 3 solid months to 6 days of sprinkles…
Second-yay for “For the Love”! Honestly, I’m only in the first chapter but I think I’ve heard myself say “YES!!!” about 10 times already.

As a long time reader, hello! I have 3 children, the youngest being 5 months and my brain IS mush! You must tell me how you stay so sharp with 4. Love your style and the cushions are darling!

Girl, I am feeling your pain about having to get up early with the littles. I was a total night owl until my guys started elementary school. Preschool started at 9am, which was great! For elementary school, my boys have to be up by 6:45 so that they can leave in time to get to school by 7:40am. I am now an early bird after so many years of having to get my boys to school on time!

No, don’t get rid of more pillows!!

You are a normal person whose house would not make an episode of Hoarders. You are therefore my control for showing my other half that there is someone in the world who has more pillows than me and isn’t crazy. If you get rid of more I lose my defence… ?

    Love the pumpkin. x

Cannot wait to see a Maskcara review/tutorial from you! I’ve been on the fence but am sure I’d probably love it!

Looking forward to seeing your fall home tour too! I live in the south where we’re still reaching close to 90 degrees, so I’m not quite ready for all of the fall just yet either. But I have started to see some leaves begin to change, so we’re getting there!

Looking forward to your fall home tour! I would post one on my blog, but I’m in southeast TX and we’re still hitting upper 90s every day, ha! There’s no way I can decorate for fall yet. :) I’ll have to live through you and the other bloggers vicariously and wish for cooler weather. I’m about to start Jen Hatmaker’s For the Love as well. Glad to hear you like it!

I would love to purchase some of your beautiful pillows. Can you and I talk?

I love your blog and look forward to my emails from you!!! I am also not ready for the rich colors of Thanksgiving, and am in love with the pumpkins painting! Is that something you created, or was that a purchased item? Can you share details either way?

Thank you for sharing with all of us!

Okay, first of all, I’m so excited for your fall home tour this year. Your fall tours are my favorite. Also, your pillow closet is hilarious.

Seahawks season… yes please! We’ve been watching the practice games and we are ready(!)

I am obsessed with modern farmhouses/barns. I want to build one so badly. And possibly keep chickens, and a goat. (for all the blackberry bushes ;-)

I love the marriage is funny podcast! I found it a few months ago and I’m almost embarrassed to admit that I wait impatiently every single week for them to post the next episode. Sometimes I even cry with them. (but that’s not saying much, I cry pretty easy.) Haha.

I feel like we are kindred spirits. One of these days we should meet in real life… xo

  13. Christine September 10, 2015 at 7:54 am #

What the what!!!! Seahawks cup cozies? I don’t drink coffee or go to Starbucks but I might go and just ask for a “few”. I wonder if they even have them here in Atlanta? Crossing my fingers!!!

I loooooove maskara! She is such a wonderful person and great blogger to follow! Her makeup is great too!

I have been reading your blog now for 3 days (first time visitor) and made it to page 30 so far. Thank you for having it, I’m truly inspired! We just bought our home, and although I think I’m pretty crafty, you have given me some great ideas!

P.s. I bought that tunic in the same color and the white and black striped when they had the 40% off! Love it as well :)
