The week between Christmas and New Year’s is one of my favorites.
Of course we love Christmas and all the days and events leading up to it. Baking, cleaning, wrapping, waiting.
And then Christmas comes and it is all about family. Cousins, grandmas and grandpas, aunties and uncles. A house full of activity and excitement, food and gifts and chaos.
This year, Audrey got a karaoke microphone and we all made good use of it with a concert-turned dance party complete with disco ball and ridiculous dance moves.
My family stays for the week (even though we all live within an hour of each other it makes it extra fun to have a few days of vacation-like relaxation with nowhere to go and nothing to do).
We sit on the couch for hours, play games, watch movies, eat, and forget what day it is.
The sun came out for a minute so we all went down to the beach for some fresh cold air, rock-collecting and a quick family picture.
Yesterday we took the kids ice skating at a local rink and developed a new appreciation for how hard it really is.
Last night we all went to the new Mary Poppins movie. GO SEE IT! Oh, it was just delightful and I can’t wait to see it again. There may or may not have been many tears dropped from all of the adults’ eyes!
We have one more event tonight, then all of the family will pack up and leave tomorrow. Our house will feel so empty!
This magical week between Christmas and New Years reminds us to rest, play, connect, laugh, sleep in, recover.
The new year will come quickly and along with it motivation and forward-thinking and packing away of Christmas, but for now, I’m so thankful for this in-between time to just linger.
Happy 2018, my friends. See you next year.
