Last night I went out for dessert with my sisters and cousins. Our plan was to eat at:
to get a *H U G E* slice of:
{coconut cream pie}
But it seemed that every other Seattle-ite thought Dahlia Lounge was the perfect place to spend their Friday night as the wait was 3 1/2 hours.
So we changed plans and headed to another yummy favorite:
They’ve done some updating since my last visit and now have the cutest menu ever {apparently I’m more concerned with the font selections than the food options!}. I strayed from my norm of ordering something apple {crisp, pie, crumb cake} and ordered this:
{sicilian donuts with orange honey-ricotta cream and warm nutella chocolate sauce}
Oh. My. Goodness. It did not disappoint.
So : my question for you this weekend is:
So, I’m a little late with this post, but I wanted to share my fav dessert. We had it one night at a friend’s little gathering and I fell in love with it. It’s BBQ strawberries over vanilla bean ice cream. It’s been awhile since I’ve made this, so hopefully this is all of the ingredients: First BBQ the strawberries, then puree some of them in a blender and add sugar, balsamic vinegar, and a dash of orange triple sec, mix, and pour concotion over vanilla bean ice cream with large chunks of BBQ’d strawberries. OH.MY.GOODNESS. I’m sure it could also be done with other types of fruit.
I’m a fairly new reader, and it looks like you might be a local Seattlite? Must try here? Tango 1100 Pike St on Capital Hill, lives up to the name – divine and evil. My current fave.
One of my top desserts is the sublime chocolate gelato with peanut butter caramel sauce and sea salt @ Oliver’s Twist in the Phinney Ridge neighborhood of Seattle. To DIE FOR!!
My favorite is generally chocolate but at Christmas I make 5 layer dessert that I just love. 1) gingerbread cake topped with 2) pears cooked in butter and maple syrup topped with 3) freshly whipped heavy cream topped with 4) fresh, home-made cranberry coulis topped with 5) home-made sugared cranberries. Oh my…it’s just so yummy!
our wedding cake. hands down. a brown cake. no flour. basically, it was a dark chocolate truffle shaped into a cake. mmmmmmmm. I am hungry ;)
My bff Heather makes THE best Tiramisu ever. EVER!
If you are ever in Nashville, TN you must go to the 1808 Grille inside the Hutton Hotel – the B.E.S.T dessert – Bannana Beignet with hazelnut creme anglaise – SO good and it is served warm in a paper bag with powered sugar with instructions to “shake”.
omg…. palomino is still there?! i was in seattle in like 91 and ate there. soooo good! knowing it’s still there made my day. thanks!
German Chocolate Cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory was to die for! However, they no longer carry this item. So I just have to remember how wonderful it was! Which of course makes it taste even more delightful:-)
My homemade chocolate creme brulee! Its melt in your mouth good :)
creme brulee is simple perfection! for a shopping treat, Nordstrom has a white chocoalte bread pudding..yummm
well, my sweet hubby makes a yummy creme brulee! and those little donuts look oh so good!
My grandmother’s homemade, made from scratch coconut cake. Oh my goodness- to die for!
For sure it is the Blackberry Bread Pudding from a local yocal tea house in Waxahachie, TX called The Dove’s Nest http://thedovesnestrestaurant.com They make their Bread Pudding and add the custard from their buttermilk pie recipe and put a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. YUMMY!!! Plus you can walk your dessert off by browsing around their wonderful shop. Gotta check them out. I know you’d love their little store. :)
Me and my friends always enjoy my mom’s homemade yellow cake with homemade chocolate syrup icing. Yum!
Green Tea and White Chocolate Cheesecake at The Ivy Sydney Australi
I tend to go for the simple classic creme brulee. I also really recommend dinner and dessert at Assaggio http://www.assaggioseattle.com/menu.php – oh so yummy :)
This is a hard one for I have such a sweet tooth like all of the rest of you. Nostalgia definitley plays a part. Hmmm…lick the spoon good…this sounds kind of borning but I really like my husbands peanut butter blossoms.!!! Especially around Christmas time!
my friend pam’s cheesecake.
i made it this weekend.
and i ate three pieces. it is INCREDIBLE!
I love the strawberries @ Daniel’s Broiler…infused with Grand Marnier and then dipped in chocolate! OMG Delish!!
How funny … my uncle was the chef at Daniels and INVENTED those strawberries! They are delicious.
I am new to your blog and I am loving all of it. LOVE your home…thanks for sharing it with all of us! My very favorite dessert is from a restraunt located in downtown Sacramento called Rio City Cafe. I can’t remember the name of the dessert but it has a fancy name:) its like fancy chocolate lava cake the inside is divine..makes my mouth water just thinking of it. I think I need to go back soon!
Oh my. This is such a hard question…I am a dessert PHENE!!! no joke. Love them. I really love anything home made…my grandma makes a KILLER peach pie to die for in fact. But as far as just like a one time, forever remember me dessert…I would probably go with the chocolate purse that my husband and I died over while on vacation in Kona Hawaii…at a place called Merimans. I remember it to this day…and that is sayin’ somethin’! haha
In our house, dessert is its own food group, so it’s hard to say! One of my favorites, though, was actually our wedding cake from a fabulous bakery in Clearwater, FL- amaretto cake with raspberry Bavarian cream filling and buttercream icing. Perfect day and perfect cake! :)
LOVE those palomino donuts! Pretty much love every countries donuts…loukamades (Greek) filled with nutella, ridiculous, also the food truck “where ya at Matt” has beignets (fried French donuts) sooo yummy. Also love kingfish cafes red velvet cake. Mytummies grumbling…..
…this delicious little country apple tart my mother and sisters used to put together… and thanks for making me nostalgic. geez Emily!
There’s a little local restaurant that makes the best tiramisu ever! So good!
Pot de creme at a restaurant called Lindemann’s on the South Hill of Spokane. When we moved back home from living a year in Los Angeles, our literal first stop was to buy a slice of its fudgy goodness!
My grandmother’s Italian Cheesecake. She only made it once a year, which made it all the more special. It was to die for!
my favorite dessert is something i discovered while living in england – banoffee pie. it is a delight! graham cracker like crust – banana and toffee filling – http://www.grouprecipes.com/22546/decadent-banoffee-pie.html….
also I LOVE New Orleans Beignets from the Grand Luxe Cafe in Chicago – they remind me of your sicilian doughnuts!!!
I am crushing on your doughnuts with orange cream something and warm nutella but here’s a super simple recipe for an amazing dessert.
http://smittenkitchen.com/2010/07/raspberry-brown-sugar-gratin/ I have made it with a combination of blueberries and raspberries but could totally imagine some fresh peaches in there. you gotta try it!
In Linville Ridge, NC there is a New Orleans inspired restaurant — no clue of the name, toatla cajun amazing-ness and they have profiterols with blue berry ice cream which are absolutely unreal.
Oh I love Papa Haydan’s on 23rd in Portland. Oh yum yum yum. So many options there I can’t even begin to decide. PS. I missed your birthday!! Happy birthday to you a little late. Well, quite late. :-)
On my honeymoon in Kauai four years ago, my husband and I stumbled upon the most amazing little restaurant called “Postcards”. The food was really good, but the best part was their dessert! Every time we went there we got the molten chocolate cake that had drizzles of raspberry around it and whipped cream. And every time when we were done, we looked at each other and whispered, “I wonder if we can lick the plate?!?!” That is by far my most favorite dessert in the world… it also could have something to do with the fact that I was on my honeymoon :)
I am a super dessert lover so its hard to choose, but I had creme brulee on our last date night at Anthony’s and it was so good so I will go with that!
Love your blog! Thanks for sharing. My favorite would have to be the chocolate buttercream pie at the Harbor View in Pepin WI!
My favorite is creme brûlée. It is so yummy!!
There is a restaurant in my hometown of Jackson, TN named Dumplin’s. They have a ton of amazing cakes, but my favorite is the White chocolate cake. Its just a simple white cake with white icing but it is the best desert I have ever tried, by far. I also really love fried bananas with coconut ice cream at the local Thai place. Divine. :)
A visit to Miss Grimble NYC…with a side of whipped cream…
I am also all about the apple goodies. With lots of cinnamon, too. I am a fan of the Cinnabon. So non-gourmet, but oh my goodness those are so yummy.
I love dessert and have had soo many yummy ones, but my all time favorite is a chocolate bread pudding that I have gotten at “Grill 23” here in Boston. So delish!
I live in Napa Valley, we have a million restaurants and I never leave any of them without dessert which makes this a hard question to answer. One of my favorites comes from Rutherford Grill. They make a super dooper yummy Key Lime Pie. It’s sweet with just the right amount of tartness. My other favorite is the Camp Fire Pie from Cindy’s Back Street Kitchen. If you like s’mores, you’ll LOVE Camp Fire Pie.
Fun question!
Our family has a cabin in Midway, Utah. There’s a little restaurant in town called the Bear Dance Cafe. They make a mini apple pie that is to die for. I consider myself an apple pie connoisseur, and it’s by far the best I have ever had!! They don’t make it every day…..which I guess is a good thing, because if they did, I would eat it every day we are there!
A simple but memorable desert was a meringue (perfectly cooked , crispy outside and chewy centre) topped with fresh thick cream and strawberries and a berry jus.
I recommend the red velvet cupcakes at Bella Dolce in Madison Valley, Seattle. Moist, rich and the best frosting ever.
I pick Creme Brulee with real whipped cream and fresh berries every time. MMMM.
there’s this dessert called “the blondie” at a cute little place called applebees…i don’t know if you’ve heard of it…
Looks delicious! The best ever for me, a tiny little upscale restaurant in our town, The Cellar, makes the most decadent Phyllo wrapped blueberry cheesecake with blueberry drizzle. I’m sure it has a fancier name, and the presentation is incredible. If you are in the Greater Toronto Area, it is worth the drive to the Cellar in Halton Hills/Georgetown. It is in the basement of an old bank, great ambience!
My favorite by far is Nigella Lawson’s Chocolate Cloud Cake . It’s just divine! It’s easy to make too, so can’t beat that!
The answer is obviously creme brulee. Nothing can compete. Its the best. You’re welcome for clearing that up for you.
I’m a huge fan of the chocolate fondue at the Melting Pot, we tried to go there last night for their happy hour (in Bellevue – hello fellow Seattle-ite!) but the wait was insane! We ended up making fondue at home instead :)
the double sundae from our hometown chocolatier Debrands – with tart raspberry sauce, dark chocolate, and homemade vanilla ice cream
yum!
p.s. thanks for all the inspiration on your blog. it is lovely!
um that dessert looks AMAZING! now on to my fav. yup thats a hard one cause im def a dessert girl but my top two are banana fosters and tiramisu! i had the best tiramisu at “dametra cafe” in carmel by the sea. it was such a amazing place!
Ever had? Hmm can’t quite choose one but right now my absolute desire is a fabulous carrot cake from a local restaurant! I’m usually a chocolate girl but this cake has my heart, and waistline!
First, I’m hooked on your blog.. I find I’m reading you everyday now! I feel so inspired to start my own copy-cat style blog. Of course with a different theme, but just to have a journal for myself about my life. I made a simple rug this Friday, and thought this is blog worthy. I love crafts!
Tiramisu for me!
I can’t for the life of me think of a blog name. Have a great weekend God Bless you!
growing up my aunt would make cherry clafouti, i don’t live near her now but i can still see that pie and it’s yummimess!!! otherwise i just love chocolate anything!
ooh this is an easy one for me. i went to wake forest in winston-salem, nc and there was a place there called midtown cafe and dessertery…. they had the best italian cream cake. i miss it just now as i type about it…. my tummy is growling!
Wow this is tough im such a simple girl when it comes to my dessert would probably be homemade brownies or cake from a local store called market of choice and I always get poppyseed cake with strawberry filling and cream cheese frosting, yummy!
ooo this is hard! i love deserts… one that is sticking out in my mind because I had it not too long ago was some wedding cake at a wedding show (so unfortunately it was only a bite). It was lemon and had about 2o different very fine layers to it, it was even made with lemon chello! So good! I’m hoping my sister picks that one for her wedding cake so I can indulge in it some more, and a much bigger slice! The chocolate raspbery cheesecake at the Cheesecake Factory is always a winner too!
