Albuquerque, New Mexico + Los Poblanos Inn

We wrapped up our time visiting the west coast and National Parks with a stop by Four Corners Monument – because how could we miss it?!

And of course we put each kid in their own state just for kicks.

Following a few weeks in the dusty desert, doing lots of hiking and outdoorsy activities, a stay in a beautiful inn felt like a good idea for the next stop on our trip.

Somehow we came across the Los Poblanos Inn in Albuquerque and knew right away it was the perfect place to spend a few days to relax.

I know that Albuquerque and neighboring Santa Fe, New Mexico has much to offer, great restaurants, shops and breathtaking vistas, but I’ll be honest: we didn’t get out much. We ate at the inn, swam at the inn, slept at the inn.

One night, we planned on trying a recommended restaurant but quickly detoured when we saw the Costco lights and decided a big shopping trip was in order.

Hot dogs and sodas for all!

(P.S. shopping at Costco is not recommended when living in 200 square feet. But the foam mattress pad was calling our names – and aching backs – and we were out of ketchup, so whatever.)

Back to the lovely Los Poblanos Inn.

The historic inn is located on 25 acres with a thriving lavender farm, organic gardens, farm to table restaurant and shop.

The grounds are filled with flowers, trees, vines, secret gardens and old gates. We had such a nice time walking through the property.

If you look closely in the photo below, you can see Ryan and one of the boys standing outside the door to our cottage. It was quite magical!

Inside the buildings the decor is subtly southwest, but with a very modern, clean and historic feel.

I’m always so taken with pretty spaces – no matter the style – and each room, door, flooring and outdoor space had me quite inspired. I particularly love those white plaster walls.

And the tile in our bathroom! 

The restaurant was both charming to sit in and delicious to eat at. We had breakfast and I don’t even remember what I ate, but I know it was go-oood.  

The weather wasn’t super warm, but that didn’t stop these Washingtonians from spending a day at the empty pool!

One afternoon, we ventured to The Farm Shop which was such a delight. 

We chatted with the shop manager for quite a while and learned so much about the property and all of the wonderful products the shop carries. Los Poblanos has a line of lavender products that smell divine – lotion, soap, shampoo, lip balm. They also sell honey (I adore the packaging), hot sauce, flavored pecans, gelato (the blueberry lavender was spectacular) and seasonings. Everything else in the shop is gathered from local New Mexico brands and makers. They sell the most gorgeous Alligator Juniper breadboards that come from these trees with crazy alligator-skin trees that grow mainly in New Mexico.

I think I wrote once on instagram that my love language is cute, well-curated shops with kind sales people/managers/owners that will stop to chat and share their stories. This was totally one of those experiences and a highlight from our time in Albuquerque.

As for the kids?

Their highlights were the peacocks roaming the property:
This blue guy perched right off our back patio (inside those walls) and gave the most obnoxious scream-calls each morning. They are beautiful to look at, and not so pretty to wake up to :)

A few days of slow relaxing was a great way to finish up a quick-paced tour of the canyons and desert. If you find yourself in the Albuquerque area, we can not recommend Los Poblanos enough.
