It’s that time of year when we get the itch to move (well, not us. We’re not moving anytime soon. But lots of other people get that itch.)
Spring is always a busy real estate season with people selling and buying houses, moving into new apartments or rentals, trading up or down and starting fresh. If you have any friends or family members moving into a new house, perhaps you’d like to bring a little housewarming gift with you when you visit for the first time.
A reader asked if I had ever done a post about housewarming gift ideas and since I had not, I thought it was a great idea! You could always go with a bottle of wine or a potted plant or cut flowers, but if you’d like something a little more unique, check out my top picks.
1 LEATHER TASSEL KEYCHAIN from Mark & Graham. This one comes in a bunch of pretty colors and can be monogramed for free.
2 COASTERS from Rifle Paper Co. These are so cute. They are thick paper in the signature Rifle Paper floral style we all love.
3 JUICE GLASSES from Hearth + Hand for Target. Sweet little glasses with a cute x pattern. They come in green or clear.
4 MARBLE SALT CELLAR from Crate and Barrel and FANCY SALT from Williams Sonoma. The perfect little stove-side accessory.
5 KITCHEN TOWEL from Anthropologie. A hardworking tea towel in a happy pattern is always a welcomed gift.
6 WOOD NESTING HOUSES from Hearth + Hand for Target. What says housewarming better than a wooden house? These would be very cute on a shelf or dining table centerpiece.
7 GLASSYBABY CANDLE HOLDER from Glassybaby + TEALIGHTS from CB2. Do you know about Glassybabies? They were started here in Seattle and are very pretty handblown glass candle holders that make the prettiest light. Each has a special name and this teal color is called – appropriately – Home Sweet Home.
8 BRASS DINNER BELL from Amazon. Call the kids down for dinner with just a pull of the braided cord. We have one of these in our kitchen and get comments about it all the time.
9 HELLO GOODBYE DOORMAT from Target. How fun to bring a new doormat to your friend’s new home! I put this one at our back door and smile every time I see it.
10 MARBLE DOORSTOP from CB2. If you’re looking for a unique gift that is super practical, look no further than this doorstop. We have it in our house and use it everyday.
11 BAYLEAF + EUCALYPTUS WREATH from Williams Sonoma. This wreath comes fresh and dries over time. It is lovely on a front door or in the house.
12 X PATTERN NAPKINS + NAPKIN RINGS from Hearth + Hand for Target.
13 BARR-Co. HONEYSUCKLE CANDLE from Amazon. Not only does this candle smell delicious, but the perfect peachy orange jar is just as lovely.
14 HOME SENTIMENT PILLOW from Potterybarn. Don’t forget the down insert :)
And now I feel like maybe we should move to a new house so I could get these gifts :)
I’ve never heard of Glassybaby but am obsessed after looking at their site. Their bridal collection jumped out at me with my daughter getting married in October.
The candles are so pretty! I especially love the drinkers :)
We got the itch! So, we’re moving from Minnesota to South Korea. I guess it was a huge itch! Anyone who wants to purchase any of these, please do! :)
Perfect timing! We have new neighbors moving in today and I was wondering what to get them to welcome them to the neighborhood! I think the welcome mat or candle. :) for friends moving in the past I’ve got Mrs Meyer’s soup and am purpose spray, tea towels and a candle.
Lovee these ideas!
Lately I have been trying to give gifts that can get “used up”. I love the new trend in backyard fire pits, so these fire starters are my go to gift! Piggies, bears, even cupcakes to get the party started. http://Www.etsy.com/67Firefly/firestarters
Thanks Emily! My 25-year-old niece moved into her first apartment two weeks ago. She must have sent me 25 pictures of her one bedroom apartment. She has done a fabulous job of styling her small space. I’ve been trying to think of SOMETHING small, unique and reflective of her style for a housewarming gift, nothing has excited me. Those cute little wood nesting houses are perfect! She has a square table inside her door with a small tray for her keys and a clear glass vintage vase she keeps one fresh blossom in at all times. Those houses will look darling on that table (or wherever she chooses to place them).
Yay! Sounds like the perfect gift!
Great ideas! I also thought seasonal salad plates would be fun. Pier One has some super cute ones with bunnies on them and the set is very affordable. Stick them on top of a white plain plate and a colored napkin between and on a charger and taa-daa…instant pretty table setting! They come in ceramic but they are often in melomine which is great for kids!
These are great ideas! And I love that they are actually reasonably priced compared to some bloggers ideas of gifts that are way more expensive (and not realistic for my gifting budget).
Read reviews for the non returnable wreath from Williams and Sonoma. I wouldn’t recommend it.
My mother-in-law bought me a bayleaf wreath for christmas from Williams Sonoma and I love it! It does dry out, but that is inevitable. Mine dried really nicely.
The new door mat is an awesome gift idea! Love it!
