loving: fresh cut hydrangeas from our yard. Especially these on my desk.
reading: Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter. Intriguing story, good pace, a little crass. Just finished The Kitchen House by Kathleen Grissom which is now my new favorite book. I could not put that one down.
waiting for: a big shipment of paper! Remember the 50% off sale on art prints? Yeah, that was crazy. Still getting the last orders out and just waiting on that paper so we can print a bunch more. If you haven’t received your prints yet, thank you for your patience. They are coming soon!
excited about: my cousin’s wedding this weekend. Not sure yet what to wear. Thinking something like this:
missing:Ā our most amazing hawaiian getaway. I want to go back.
trying to:Ā eat less sugar. I’m failing miserably.
working on: reviewing several new blogs created by students in The Blog Class. I can’t wait to share them with you!
enjoying: time with the family this summer.
using: my iphone a lot. Probably too much.
wearing: boring clothes. Jeans. Blouse. Hair in a pony. I wish I was wearing this instead:
planning: is not really my strong suit. I should do more of it. Especially meal planning.
singing: something by katy perry, probably. Or anything on Pandora today’s hits.
needing: a hair cut, mani/pedi and new eyelashes. Okay, need is not the right word. But want, yes.
learning: to stop and take a deep breath and not always have to be accomplishing a task in order to feel like I’m being productive.
listening: to a silent house. The kids are off with our favorite sitter, Ryan is out running errands. The house is momentarily silent. It is glorious.
wishing: my baby would please go back to calling me mommy. I’m just not ready for her to say things like, “for real, mom“. Seriously? She’s only 2 1/2.
doing: lots and lots of sandy laundry from spending the weekend at the beach.Ā
praying for: less of me, more of Him. I’m growing more aware of my selfishness and it’s not pretty.
dreaming of: a cool vacation house in eastern washington where it is sunny all summer and snows in the winter. In our dream world, it would look much like this:
This is actually a guest house over a garage, but that would work just fine for me!
So this is me.
Want to play along? What are you currently up to?
{this currently post idea is borrowed from my friend Sasha at Lemonade Makin’ Mama. She is talented, thoughtful and takes pretty pictures. You should read her blog.}
Love this post and reading all that everyone has going on. Currently I’m missing my husband who is in Washington on business. My house is a mess as with the cat away we have just been playing and watching the olympics (congrats to abby and co with the gold this morning great game.) My current read is going back through the Beth Moore study of the book of James Mercy Triumphs it refreshes my soul, mind and heart. I will however look to download the kitchen house. I just cruised over to Lemonade Makin Mama…love, love, love it :)!!!
I just recently stumbled across your blog and I am so thankful, it is so inspirational – I can’t get enough. Thanks for all of the hard work you put into your blog and for sharing so much. Your posts are beautiful and encouraging.
I loved this simple idea, tried it on my blog, and people have absolutely loved it! Thanks for sharing :)
Love the outfit and the book recommendations. Can we use your great “currently” graphic if we link back?
Stop by my blog & enter for a chance to win five children’s books from Harper Collins. Such cute little stories! :)
LOOOVVEEE this post idea!!! I am borrowing it right away and creating my own “currently”!! Thank you sooo much.
Love this post idea! Just did one of my own…

My husband & I have joked about building a house on top of a 3+ car garage. Wait until I show him your dream vacation home!
I just started reading “Wallflower at the Orgy” by Nora Ephron. I love her dry wit and will miss her ability to take ordinary life & make it humorous & sad all at the same time.
I always enjoyed reading your posts and most always can relate…we have 4 kids also! And I don’t mean to be a stick in the mud but one thing caught me this morning while reading this post. It was that you listed Katy Perry as your music of choice. We work with our youth group at church and have a teenage daughter ourselves. And as much as we love music, movies, etc. we have become very cautious about what is brought into our home, iphones, etc. because our children are SO impressionable. I loved the kid’s Christian music that you have suggested in past posts and was surprised and disappointed to read that Katy Perry would be on your list of choices. Can you explain this choice to this Christian mom?
LOVE the navy outfit combination!! Did you find that on Polyvore? If so, could you share the link to the image? If not, do you know the source for the different elements of the outfit (dress, shoes, etc.)?? DROOLING over it all!
Love this idea! And oh, how I love that wedding outfit {and the red balloon outfit, too}. Dreamy …..
Where can I find that dress?!? Love it!
Love it, and I’m playing along. I wonder if my answers would have been different at 9am than they were at 10:30pm?

Emily, I am so totally loving those gorgeous hydrangeas!!! Thanks for sharing the photo!
Love this post, love hearing what random things you’re thinking/doing…oh and that outfit for the wedding…Gorge! XoXo*S
LOVELY!! These are so much fun. Thanks for the sweetness in the shout out. You blessed my heart today. :)
Oh and LOVE the wedding outfit idea. I have a wedding in August and I can’t for the life of me decide what to wear!
Ya’ll, I really do know how to spell. Looks like I don’t know how to proof read what I write. Sorry!!
I read The Kitchen House last summer. It was the perfect summer read for me. Currently, I am having a hard time staying awake to read anything. Looking forward to a beach vacation, catching up on sleep, and hopefully finishing a book!
I want that vacation house for my house. Could not believe it was over a garage. Well I would like to share with all of you what is happening in my life that I am sooo excited about. My youngest son works at a Medical supply store and one of his customers called in and said to him “I know your company does not take back used products but my husband pasted a way and I would like to give you his lift. This is like $1500. to $2000. I would never have been able to afford to buy one. She told my son she did not want him to sell it but to give it to someone who needs it. He told her his Mother needs it and she said “give it to her”. I have not been able to shop at any stores other than the grocery stores that have there own battery operated chairs for about two years now. Now I will be able to put my own power chair on the lift, push a botton and up it goes. When I get to the store push a botton, it comes down, I get on, and into Hobby Lobby or Michaels I go. Praise God. You will never know what this means to me. I have prayed for something like this for a long time and out of the blue God hand one to me. Thank You Lord. I am crying as I am writing this. Well, that is what is happening in my life right now other than about ten projects I have going at once!!
Thanks for the update on the prints! I was beginning to wonder. I can’t wait to get them!
I love your dream house, the wedding outfit and your prayer. Your little girl sounds adorable!!! Thanks for all the book recommendations: I read “Bringing up Bebe” and “7”. Great stuff! I will have to add these to my list. How do you find the time to read so much with 4 kids?? Thanks for the fun family update. We’re looking forward to camping this weekend with church friends…bring on the fun!!!
I read The Kitchen House a year ago and LOVED it…got so invested in the characters! Love your idea of a vacation house, looks pretty good to me. Fun post!
Have you ever tried taking magnesium vitamins for your sugar cravings? I have mean chocolate cravings and I read that magnesium helped, so I take them everyday and it has gotten rid of almost all of my junk food/sugar cravings, including chocolate.
Love those shoes!!!!! Where did you find those?!! xoxo
Regarding your mindset on being productive, my good friend (who is 91 and still sharp!) says that God made us human BEINGS, not human DOINGS! And selfishness is something I seek forgiveness for every day. You’d think I’d be making some progress on that after all these years. Thanks for a lovely post (as always).
I {LOVE} the blue dress! Where is it from?!? Love your style.
I am brutally envious of those hydrangeas! There’s not enough acid in the soil here in Iowa, which is evidently what gives hydrangeas their beautiful colors. I have to make do with white- still lovely, but I love the purple and blue varieties.
Your posts are always such a work of art! I read them as soon as I see them in my inbox. I especially enjoy this type of post. Thank you for the reading recommendation – I checked and my local library has The Kitchen House available for my kindle and I should have it soon.
Love all the little information! I may have to do this for tomorrow and link it back to your site! So fun!!!
I love your list of “current” things!
Working: I am getting our office ready to photograph for Southern Living… aka, running around like a crazy lady pulling fabrics and prints and rearranging furniture
Ohhh, I love the blue dress with sash! Where ever did you find it?!
I’ll play!
Loving: that it’s actually cooler this AM, even tho it will be 90 before days end.
Reading: Living Water by Pastor Chuck Smith, blessed to be learning more about how the Holy Spirit works in our lives, our God is So Good!
Waiting and Excited for :Direction
Missing: Beach Camping. Had to skip our annual trip this year (it is not 90 at the beach!)
I could go on and on, but I’ll tell you what I am really blessed by as I read your blog and other’s comments: how similar many of us women are! A silent house, but loving to hear “Mommy” (I still get that although my kids are grown and I get to hear “Grammie” as well, that’s amazing in itself!) And Praying…for less of me! And the sugar thing!!! And want VS. need, always an issue! God bless you Emily, and you others as well! Isn’t it a comfort to know we’re all in this together?
I LOVE Revitalash – have had huge success with it! Grows my lashes like I could never have imagined!!
(Thanks for the book recommendations!)
Melissa
Have been trying to wait as patiently as possible for my prints.. I know the wait will be worth it! And keep reminding myself the great cause you support that proceeds go towards, which is more important than anything! I just can’t wait to frame those beauties and hang them in my home ;)
God bless you Emily!
LOVE this idea. The hydrangeas are beautiful, and sandy laundry must be the best to have if it means the beach was involved. :) I would gladly accept your request to come visit that beautiful home you’re dreaming of. *Sigh* I’ll be following your lead with a little CURRENTLY post of my own. Won’t you come take a look?
I love your hydrangeas too! Do you know what variety they are? I love the color!
Love this! Thanks for the idea. I’m “currently” in a content slump! This will buy me some time. ;-)
I played along…
http://www.ctbakerintheacres.com/2012/07/currently.html
Reading “Illusion” by Frank Peretti (one of my fave authors). Where is the blue dress with the cream bow sold/what brand? That and the striped skirt outfits are beautiful!
How cool! I wonder what the house looks like!
Love this idea and your comments to go with it! My daughter (6) gives me the, “Seriously?” comment on a regular basis. Don’t know what to do with these girls!
I’m a regular reader but I don’t think I’ve ever commented. So hello! Or maybe I have commented and don’t remember.
I just finished Beautiful Ruins. I really liked it. Especially the ending. I love when endings are so nicely tied up. Also loved the Kitchen House. I really want to have a pet and name him Cardigan (like Lavinia’s brother). But I don’t actually want to *have* a pet, you know what I mean?
Love, love, love your hydrangeas….cannot get that color in Kansas! Just read 7 – an experimental mutiny against excess, upon your recommendation and loved it. What an eye opener and challenge to take a look at all that we have! With that in mind, can relate to your “praying for” and “learning”.
As always, thanks for sharing your random bits with readers:-)
Currently reading: The Distant Hours. It is really good and very beautifully written, in Kate Morton’s usual style. Currently waiting for; my children to leave for work so the house will be quiet and peaceful for a little while. Today’s plans; to dogsit my boss’ papillion, whom I adore, and looking forward to lots of doggie kisses today. Currently struggling with; having patience for God’s timing and unanswered prayers. Currently grateful for; so many things this summer, including some really great family time on vacation, camping and lots of different celebrations. This was fun, Emily, thanks, and have a great day ;)
Love the blue dress and I’d like a holiday house like that too :)
The Kitchen House looks amazing – I am downloading a sample on my kindle right now.
I smiled when I read the ‘mommy’ comment. I remember quite clearly when my children made that transition – my oldest daughter it was quite early, and it just happened within the past year for my 12 year old. My 9 year old still calls me mommy, and it is music to my ears every time I hear it, as I know that in the near future I will be permanently ‘mom’!
