The halls are officially decked over here. It seems that the older I get and the more full our lives get, the less stuff I want out and around. But I still wanted it to feel Christmas-y … so this is my best effort to make our family room feel like Christmas without a total overhaul.
We usually put our tree in this room, but decided to try it in the entry instead. When we host our family at Christmas, this is the room where we all hang out and while it is a nice sized room, adding a tree takes up precious space for entertaining. So tree in the entry it is.
I think adding the semi-diy wreaths to the windows adds just the right amount of Christmas to offset the non-tree factor.
On the big blank wall above the couch, I hung our stockings. This wall stumps me for regular decorating, but I have fun with it during the holidays (see it last year with wreaths and this summer with our big flag).
We’re still loving the new leather chair (see more about it here). It was just what this room needed to make that bump-out make sense and allow for conversation.
We added a bookshelf between the two windows on this side of the room and I minimally styled it. My favorite part is the little snowy scene in a vase. Myquillyn is the queen of this scene – see her version here.
Our small collection of Christmas children’s books sit in a basket ready for reading. I wrote a post about all of my favorites – see all my suggestions here (and check the comments for more suggestions!).
The room feels cozy and Christmas-y, but not overwhelmingly so. It’s just right for our family this year.

Where did you get your bookcase?
I love your sectional..is it comfy?
It is THE BEST! So comfy and deep and holds our whole family.
Do you mind if I ask where you purchased and the brand?
Beautiful decor as always! Where is your tv in this room? I always thought it was across from the couch where the new bookcase is?
We moved the tv to the wall opposite the couch. We had always intended to do this and finally did!
Simply Beautiful! BUT where did you hide the battery pack for the lights that are in the hurricane? I’m having trouble hiding mine!
It is just sitting behind the glass.
Looks warm and inviting with just enough to give the feeling of Christmas, without being overwhelming. Nice job!
Looks beautiful! I went searching for your Christmas children’s book post a few weeks ago and got a few more for our collection. After reading it last year I decided to put away the Christmas books and only bring them out in this season. There’s something special about bringing them out each year and reading them again and discovering the beautiful stories and illustrations all over again!
