my office is in better homes & gardens

    The craziest thing happened …

My office made the pages of Better Homes & Gardens.

The photo shoot was all the way back in December {they did the playroom too, but no word yet on when that one will appear} and I’ve been super excited to see how the room looked in print after being styled and photographed by inspiring and talented professionals {janna lufkin on the styling; john granen behind the camera}.

Doesn’t it look so pretty and clean and organized?! Don’t worry, it doesn’t always look like this. But it was so fun to see a real stylist do her thing – pulling L’s off the L wall, an old typewriter from the entry table and little cards and trinkets, ribbons and papers from my collection to use in the photos. She brought in a bunch of props, but I was so flattered that most of what was used is actually mine.

Another crazy thing? It took over 8 hours to get these shots. This was our first experience with magazine photo shoots {we’ve since had one more done in our kitchen – which is slated to be published next spring} and we had no idea what to expect. When I take photos, I just snap a few and go with it; when professional photographers photograph homes, they snap, then adjust, then adjust some more and then again until everything is exactly perfect. I loved watching John and his assistant work that day and hope that my photos have improved just a teeny bit because of seeing them.

If you would have told me five years ago that part of my house would be in a magazine, I never would have believed it. I am beyond grateful to the blogging industry for the ways it has opened doors and presented opportunities to just a normal girl like me. So, so honored.

    1. We just moved back into our home from a year traveling. Your office is a wonderful inspiration to get organized with see-through bins and other functional items!

    2. I just got my September copy of BH&G in the mail! It came with my October copy- so something was messed up there. However, I was SO excited to see your office featured!!! It’s gorgeous and I was so proud I went and showed my husband. I told him, “Look I know her” because I feel that I do. Congrats again, I hope this will be displayed in a prominent spot somewhere in your home!!

    3. Hi! I just got the magazine and I am in love with your office! I was wondering where you got the woven baskets (up in the closet holding fabric). I am obsessed!

    4. Hi Emily, I saw your wonderful desk in the BH&G article. The article stated the table legs came from IKEA but I can’t find them on their website. Can you confirm where you obtained the legs? Thanks

      1. The print is called Primrose from United Thread {https://www.etsy.com/transaction/91740231?ref=fb2_tnx_title}. I ended up getting a custom size for my frame, but it comes as an 8 x 10 and is beautiful.

    18. Hello Emily,

I subscribe to BHG and saw your office in the magazine. Beatuiful, BTW!! I was super inspired by your office labels. I downloaded them from the BHG website, but quickly relized that I can not add my own text to them. I would love to do so, it there anyway to do this?? I can always write on them, but would really like to add the printed text to them.

    19. Oh my stinkin’ GOODNESS!! SO happy for you!! Emily, you so deserved to grace those pages and actually several others I know your style would pop in!! Isn’t it unbelievable how things have changed from just being you on a blog. I love how you called yourself just a normal girl. Well, I think you are a ROCKSTAR girl and I could not be more thrilled for the opportunities that keep knocking for you. You truly are my “go to gal” for all things stylish as well as encouraging. Keep up the good work! We love it!!

    20. Congrats Emily! I spotted it as I was scrolling through my digital issue. I stopped and said “hey, I know that office.” So exciting for you and for us, your readers.

    21. I came home from a two week vacation yesterday and saw that my BHG was in the mail and I just looked at it through the clear packaging bag, admired the pretty cover photo, and thought, “I’ll get to it this weekend after I play catch-up”. But after reading your post that your office is featured I’m going to run and open my copy right now. How thrilling for you ~ and for all of us that read your blog. Congrats!!!

    22. Congrats Emily! Your feature is a tribute to all the hard work you have put into your home and also a great reward for sharing it with the internet. Cheers – CT

    23. Wow, how cool! have loved the office ever since you posted pics of the wall treatment. I have a subscription to BHG and can’t wait ’til I receive it. Now I can put some real photos into my old school ‘pinterest’ notebook. Congratulations!

    24. So, so excited for you!!! And I can’t wait to see your kitchen next spring! When I first discovered your blog I instantly fell in love with your kitchen redo. The booth seating being my absolute favorite and something I have plans to do in our dining room…..though my husband and I have absolutely no clue what we’re doing when it comes to building things :) So great for a family and perfect for lots of kids! I adore your blog and love your inspiration — inspiration that you share with the world!

    25. It looks great!!! Thanks for telling us that they did move things around in your home to get “the look.” I love the idea of that cute tray between your monitor and your keyboard. I’m going on the hunt through my house to see if I can find something to use that way too. And seeing your mousepad reminded me of the cute project you had on your blog to re-do one last fall. Going to do that too. Congratulations!!! Such an exciting time for you all!

    26. Yay! Congratulations!! I’m gonna look for a copy today (Better Homes and Gardens is one of my favorites besides Southern Living)! We are redoing our house right now (its such a mess I NEED inspiration) the up side we’re starting with a clean slate.
Thanks for the post and for all your great decorating ideas.
      Sarah
