linen mat & a new print
I designed a new art print to give as a party favor for an after-church celebration this weekend. My sister has been asking for it for months, so I figured the first Sunday of the new locations seemed fitting.
This one challenges me … if I really believe that what I believe is true, then why would I not want to GO and make disciples of all nations?!! I get a little caught up in my own world, but this print is a good reminder that there are a whole lot of people with perhaps larger troubles who have never heard the promises of God.
I wanted to put the print in my office and did a very simple framing project yesterday afternoon. It probably took 15 minutes. And of course I thought I’d share …

Here is what you’ll need:

:: frame
:: artwork
:: paper the size of the frame opening {I used white cardstock, but a patterned paper would be cute too}
:: fabric {I used my favorite linen from IKEA curtains}
:: glue dots, scissors
STEP ONE: cut paper to the size of the frame opening

STEP TWO: cut a rectangle of fabric just smaller than paper

No need to be perfect, but if it bothers you, you could use a ruler to make it perfect.
STEP THREE: fray the edges of the fabric

Simply pull on a few threads to achieve the fray-ness that you prefer.
STEP FOUR: attach fabric to paper using glue dots

STEP FIVE: attach artwork to fabric using glue dots

Done!

Now just pop it in your frame and you have an original mat with endless possibilities.

The new print is now in the shop, or you can purchase below. This one comes as a 5 x 7 printed on heavy linen textured paper.

Living out this verse is an amazing adventure I wouldn’t trade for anything! Although life in the tropics at the end of the paved road isn’t easy, I love the life God has called me to. I gave Him my desires, my dreams, and my family, and He has blessed me with more than I could ever have imagined. Indeed, the blessings are too many to count.
Thanks for bringing missions to the forefront this week, Emily! Blessings to you as you serve God in Seattle and on the net!

Very nice! Just a reminder that we cannot all go afar, but our nation (and our neighborhood, and our home) is part of “all the world”. We are all called to make disciples within our own sphere of influence… and sometimes our gifts better equip us to be the trainers, the supporters, the encouragers, and the pray-ers!

Well said…thank you for the reminder!
I often times think I should be DO-ing more….then the Lord gently reminds me (sometimes through my wise husband) that raising our 4 to know HIM and being a light in our own school & neighborhood community is as important. Also, recognizing that we are not all gifted in the same way. Oh, so true. Finding your gift, listening to HIS guidance….& not getting caught up in all the WORDLY “shoulds” (even at church!) …… so tough for me sometimes
Bless you & thank you for your insight.

Great message! Great project!

VERY cute!! Might have to order one. BTW — which curtains do you buy @ IKEA? Can you post a link? I bought some a week or so ago, to do one of your ruffled pillows, but think I got the wrong thing. :/

Not only is raising children a mission field but also those you come in contact with because of them ….i.e. teachers, other mothers, their friends who come to your house. Your blog is a mission also. You never hide your faith and you use your gifts to remind us of God’s faithfulness and words. How many people read your blog?
Saw a quote that stuck with me this week and it said-
“Preach the Gospel at all times. Use words if necessary.”- St. Francis of Assisi
I feel you do this through your actions/deeds that you show on your blog. Your blog always feels so honest and real. No one could read your blog for long and not know your faith. You told me of your friend’s blog which I read often called Sanctified Pearl. While your blog expresses creativity and honors God as mother, artist and friend, the Sanctified Pearl deals more with scripture and spiritual thoughts which often originates from family life. Both are good. Both are God honoring, but just handled in different ways. You live in a nation where many do not believe. I think you grow where God leads you. If He wants you to go to a third world country He will let you know in your heart. Preaching the Gospel thru your actions in Seattle in not less worthy! I do agree we need to be mindful of the hardships of others and that is a good reminder.
I am currently reading a book called- “The Me I want to be” by John Ortberg. He reminds us that we are God’s masterpiece that He created. We did not create ourselves. That if you are the best self that God has created then you are bringing glory to God that will grow His Kingdom in the way He intended for you,Emily, to do. Being any less robs the world of what God had in mind for you. I see you work hard to be your authentic self. The very nature of your post today spread God’s word and reminded us of a call to obedience for His world.
I am not made for Africa, but my daughter has gone and it fills her to overflowing. Nothing thrills a Mom more than to get a text from Africa that while hard, it was the best day of her entire life. She was there as a vet student working on animals and spreading God’s word. I feel that I spread the word along with her by raising her to know God and by financially supporting her and others that God calls to distant lands. We are all the body of Christ, I may not be the feet but I am a body part and so are you!

Darling! I did this same thing with burlap in my son’s dinosaur room with a few dinosaur prints. I love how they turned out!

Wow… I love the linen mat! I’ll definitely have to keep that in mind… it’s so nice to have more options other than the traditional mat board. Thanks for sharing such a great idea!

This is great! I love having scripture in the house, and your prints are one of my favorite ways to incorporate it.
