how to stay organized in one easy step

Do you ever feel like you have so much going on and you can’t quite keep it all straight? You forgot an appointment and have no idea what’s for dinner and never sent that thank you note you meant to send two weeks ago {um…yes.}

We’re one week into the new year with promises for better and simpler and more intentional and one way we can make this happen is by using tools that make life easy. This week, a new monthly membership called Paper Works was launched.

Tackling this need for better, simpler and more intentional organization is what Paper Works is all about. Make it easy, but also make it pretty. We’re women, after all, and pretty things make us happy.

Because sometimes watching video is more fun than reading, and because my house was quiet for the first time in weeks, I recorded a little something to tell you all about this great new system that will make your life easier and prettier.

Enjoy the randomness.

Did you notice how many times I say jot? I had no idea I loved the word so much.

As promised, here are a few images of how paper works items are used in our house.

I take full advantage of our refrigerator front and keep our weekly calendar, dinner menu and kids daily chores front and center.

The dailies list is multipurpose and can be filled in a number of ways. On the left shows daily tasks for the kids and the initial of who is in charge of that task for the day. On the right is a list of my daily goals {things like wake at 7am, and make dinner} and I check them off to stay on track throughout the week. I’m not always the best at sticking to chores or goals, but having them written down and posted where I see them daily is great motivation to stick with a plan!

I’ve heard from a few new paper works members already and here’s what they had to say:

I just received my first printed monthly package and it is beautiful! Such a high quality product, thank you! If there were ever a motivator to get organized, this set of gorgeous papers is it! – Lori

I love everything Jones Design Company does, I am always impressed with the fact that she is constantly trying to improve on what we are offered even when it is already Great! The Monthly before was fabulous, but I think Paper Works is going to be even better and so easy to access…
Thank you Emily! – Kelli

I so love this!  And I really love the editable versions and have already changed by wallpaper on my mac.  So great! – Anna

{did I mention you get free desktop, iphone and tablet wallpapers each month? They are super cute and there are other secret bonuses too!}.

Give yourself the best gift ever and finally conquer organization in your household.

The limited time sale ends today so sign up now and save yourself a few dollars each month.

Oops, and the black and white plate in your kitchen with the letters?!

    • emily January 12, 2014 at 9:27 pm #

The tray is an old one from Target – just a melamine tray hung on a 3m command strip!

  5. Chelsea Rotunno January 10, 2014 at 8:06 pm #

Oh, and I think a holiday budget sheet would be really really useful for the November set! I know I could really use a cute budget sheet for the holidays. xo

Love everything you do! I had a couple questions~where can I find the turquoise necklace and the wash & dry letters in your laundry room? Thanks!

    • emily January 12, 2014 at 9:28 pm #

Turquoise necklace is from Noonday. Wash & Dry letters are little scrapbook chipboard glittered letters. I found them at target a few years ago, but you could try a scrapbook or craft store for something similar.

Thanks for the video and pictures. I already have some of the items printed out, and the calendar will be helping me at my day job, as well.

    Oh, and GEAUX SAINTS!! ;)

I was a former subscriber but I have to say, I love Paperworks even more. The iphone background is a nice extra touch. I’m glad to hear you’re adding the scripture cards because I loved those as well. I was just thinking of some type of chore chart for my 3 and 5 year old and I loved the idea your sister had to use the dailies chart..I had never thought of that. Thanks for all you do…and for being sweet and genuine while you do it.

Such a fun idea! I love the wreath on the wall in that room! Is that DIY or store-bought?

you.talk.sooooo.fast:) No wonder you are so slender, you burn a lot of calories doing videos:) Love, love your items, and these are amazing!!

The video was sped up to make it faster … sorry for the frantic-ness!

I have been following you for a year and a half and this is the first video I have seen you in: Ohmygoodness, you are adorable. It is quite funny to me that I had such a different “voice” and personality in my head than who you really are! Both views were favorable, yet so different!

    • emily January 10, 2014 at 11:39 am #

FYI: I don’t talk this fast in real life :) The video was sped up.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this! I was scared when I got the email that you were canceling my monthly subscription. Then was SO excited to see the new Paper Works!!!!!!

My only question, will you be doing Scripture cards? I loved having those to post in my home and put in my daughter’s school lunch. If not monthly, will they be available in the store?

Thank you so much. You are my fav blogger and I always look forward to the emails and monthly goodies.

    God Bless!

wow this is awesome! your designs are so cute, even in the organizing category!!! hey, I wish you would design a monthly calendar (could be printable, customer could bind it!) but we could print the whole year out at once. I can’t find a nice one anywhere and would love to have something like this from you! haha, not like you don’t have enough work…but just a thought!

    • emily January 10, 2014 at 10:17 am #

You’re in luck because one of the secret bonus’ this month is a 2014 calendar. It is included in the downloads when you sign up as well as a very cute perpetual calendar where you can write in special dates, birthdays, anniversaries etc and use it year after year {it is not year specific}.

Love this! Trying to sign up (I’ve purchased art prints and used the archive in the past) but my email address is not associated with an account.

Should I create a new one?

    • emily January 10, 2014 at 10:16 am #

yep, just create a new account and you’re set.

K, love everything …but please tell me you sped up the speed of the video – you’re talking like micro-machine fast! It’s a little cray-cray!

    • emily January 10, 2014 at 10:06 am #

YES! I’m not quite so obnoxious :)

I love the new Paper Works and am thankful for the time you spend making it for all of us. It really does make my tasks more fun. I noticed that you have dropped the Bible verses. If you bring them back or do something else like that, please let me know. I have your little cards posted all around my house and they have been instrumental in my memory work. Thanks again!!

    • emily January 10, 2014 at 9:49 am #

I just finished up a set of 52 scripture cards that all Paper Works members will get for free! Coming soon …

  24. Janice January 10, 2014 at 9:39 am #

Love the video!! Love that you’re talking a mile a minute!! I usually have no patience for online videos because they drag on and don’t get to the point fast enough for me. Yours is PERFECT!!!!!

    • emily January 10, 2014 at 9:50 am #

Here’s my trick: I sped up the video :) My husband takes a million online classes and uses a tool to speed up the videos and it makes it go so much faster. We did the same to this video – so this is not actually how fast I talk, but it works!

      • Lisa Frank January 10, 2014 at 11:15 am #

That’s so funny that you sped up the video! I was thinking, “Oh man, Emily definitely had *major* caffeine this morning, I can barely keep up!!” hahaha :) You’re adorable, as always.

I love the January Dailies Chart. I have five kids, and I print one chart for each kid, each week. They have all their chores listed in the left column, and when they have completed the chore, they put a sticker in the day’s block for that chore. At the end of the week, the whole page is filled up with stickers, and they are super satisfied at seeing all the work they’ve done (and I can see exactly what isn’t getting done), and I feel super organized! Then we print out a new set for a fresh start. I’m LOVING it. Great idea! Thank you!

Side Note: This method works for us, but you could easily print out one set and laminate it and use dry erase markers or removable stickers, too… So versatile!

    • emily January 10, 2014 at 9:51 am #

I love how you use it! My kids love routine and knowing what’s expected so having a chart like this is perfect.

I love this idea. I’m just one person in my home, tho, and am retired so I don’t have enough going on to really keep track of it. I think it’s great tho and I can see how, if you have a family, it would be a great help. Just wondering if you could share where you got your darling top? It’s adorable. thanks.
